Bull Rider Koby Radley Sidelined for Rounds 8 and Round 9

LAS VEGAS – Bull rider Koby Radley, who has qualified for the past two Wrangler National Finals Rodeos, was doctor-released out for Rounds 8 and 9 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo because of a concussion, according to a Justin Sportsmedicine spokesman Thursday.

Radley was injured in Round 7 after he was bucked off and had the back of his head stepped on by his re-ride bull 4L & Diamond S Rodeo’s Relentless at the Thomas & Mack Center, Wednesday. Radley will be evaluated the next two days to see if he will be cleared to compete in Round 10 Saturday night.

Radley also received four stitches in his forehead from the impact of his head hitting the inside of his helmet. Relentless also stepped on Radley’s left hand but did not break it.

“It’s definitely frustrating to have to miss a couple of rounds,” said Radley, 21. “I was having a really good week up to last night, but this is just part of the game of bull riding. It was an eliminator pen (in Round 7) and they were all going to be a handful, and (Relentless) was definitely a handful.

“What I do I remember of the ride? The first jump out of there felt good and the second jump, I think my feet came up and hit me in the butt and it went to heck from there. I’m pretty sore. I got a good bruise on my neck.”

Radley is third in the Wrangler NFR average with 435 points on five head. Radley won Round 3 with an electric 92-point ride on Big Stone Rodeo Inc.’s Spotted Demon, the 2018 PRCA Bull of the Year. Radley also finished second in Round 5 with a 90.5-point ride on Hampton Pro Rodeo’s Hacksaw Ridge.

Radley has earned $64,295 at this year’s Wrangler NFR and is fifth in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $178,849.

Randley finished 10th in the world standings last year.
