Marchi: “Every time I tell the story of everything that I went through, I get emotional”

By: Jorge Cardoso

In 2008, Brazil achieved its fifth PBR world title with the victory of Guilherme Marchi, who clinched the World Championship in the sixth round of the PBR World Finals.

This round will be replayed this Thursday, April 30, at 8 p.m. ET on RidePass for free.

Marchi recalled the achievement and was thrilled to speak with Rafael Vilella during an interview this week, published on PBR Brazil’s social media.

“It was a moment that I waited for in my career,” Marchi said to Vilella. “It was a very blessed year. Many victories, many 90-point rides, many event and round wins. It is good to remember good times of 2008.”

In 2004, Guilherme Marchi arrived in the United States, and in 2005 he came close to winning the world title. If not for a stop by Justin McBride, his dream would have come true.

“Actually, I had no frustration,” Marchi said. “I was happy to have won in Las Vegas, and I know that Justin worked very hard to be there, and he deserved it. He didn’t give up any time. This shows the will to win, the competitor’s drive, and that inspired me a lot.”

Again in 2006, Marchi was close to having the title, but Adriano Moraes managed to win the third World Championship of his career, even with some injuries.

“He was a lion,” Marchi said.

Marchi again lost in 2007 and took the runner-up finish. The most emotional moment of the interview was when Rafael Vilella remembered the competition with J.B. Mauney in 2008, the year of Marchi’s title win.

“Since becoming World Champion in 2008, every time I tell the story of everything that I went through, I get emotional,” Marchi said. “It has been a difficult career since I arrived in the United States until the day I retired. Those three second places were God testing me and preparing me to be a man inside and outside the arena.”

In the interview, Marchi also speaks about details of how the Final was, the friendships he won, the emotion of having a World Champion buckle and other feelings. Follow and relive all of this on Thursday, April 30th, starting at 8 p.m. ET for free on RidePass.
