The Morning Line – Del Rio Round 2

By: Slade Long

I’m fairly certain this event features the most time elapsed between Round 1 and Round 2 in PBR history. Round one took place in Del Rio, Texas, one month ago, just before the entire state of Texas froze over. We will pick up where that left off here with Round 2 and a short round tonight and start the actual Glendale event tomorrow.

Cody Teel on 573 Buck Wild:

We saw this bull a few times last season. He was ridden in his last two outs by Cooper Davis and Marco Eguchi, both right-handed riders like Teel. Teel came down in the first round, but with only seven qualified rides in the first go, he has a chance to jump into the short round.

Keyshawn Whitehorse on 688 American Gangster:

Whitehorse was 87.5 points on this bull back in 2019. Gangster is a quality bull. He isn’t ridden very often, but he’s more vulnerable to right-handed riders. Whitehorse had a pretty easy time with him in their first meeting.

Mason Taylor on 513 Let’s Play Clay:

Taylor was 89.25 points to place second in the first round in Del Rio, and he has a promising matchup here. This bull may not be enough to win the round on, but he’s rideable, and a second score would put Taylor in good position going into the short round.

Rafael Henrique dos Santos on 106 Sosa’s Alley Cat:

Santos won the opening round in Del Rio, Texas, a day before the snowpocalypse put the whole event on pause. He has an outstanding bull in this round as well, but maybe not the easiest one to ride. Alley Cat hasn’t been ridden by a right-handed rider since Cody Teel rode him in June of 2019.

Jess Lockwood on 21 Jaynette’s Pet 2:

Lockwood was 87 points in the first round back in Del Rio, and he has a good draw in Round 2. This bull is rather low on the difficulty scale. He’s given up scores in nearly half his outs. Lockwood may not earn a round win, but he has a great chance of picking up a second qualified ride and going into the short go near the top.

Alex Cardozo on 92T Buckin’ For Cash:

This is one of the better draws in the round. Buckin’ For Cash has been ridden in four of his last six outs, and for great scores. Cardozo has no points on the season and could really use a win.

Cole Melancon on 728 Draggin’ Up:

These two met in Arcadia, Florida, earlier this season, and the bull won, but Melancon does have a shot. Draggin’ Up is a very rideable bull who gave up solid scores in more than half his outs last season. He’s strongest against right-handed riders, but Melancon is very good on bulls that go away from his hand.

Colten Fritzlan on C-6 Rock City Dreamin’:

We know nothing about this bull, but Fritzlan is on a serious roll. In the last four months, he’s won the National Finals Rodeo, his first UTB event in Okeechobee, and The American. It doesn’t get much better than that. Fritzlan can ride anything they run under him, and this bull will have to come up strong to get the edge.

Cooper Davis on -400 Oz:

Oz is one of the tougher bulls in the round, and he’s especially difficult against right-handed riders; he’s 17-0 against them. He likes the left, and he can generate a lot of whip to the outside when he comes around. Davis can ride any bull here, and he’s leading the world standings right now, but he’s got a tough opponent in this round.

Kaique Pacheco on 027 Concealed Carry:

Pacheco bucked off this bull in Ocala, Florida, in January, but Concealed Carry is a solid draw for any rider. He’s a better fit for left-handed riders, but he’s an honest bull, and Pacheco definitely has a shot.
