Divino and Lawrence Have Matching 87.5 Scores

Silvano Alves moves up the PBR record book while No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme extends world lead inside closed-to-fans Lazy E Arena

GUTHRIE, Okla. – In PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) second closed event in Oklahoma, two riders broke buckoff streaks to tie for the Round 1 win, the world No. 1 rode yet another bull, and a three-time PBR World Champion made league history on Saturday night.

While 14 cowboys reached the requisite 8 seconds inside Lazy E Arena, Lucas Divino (Nova Crixas, Brazil) and Stetson Lawrence (Williston, North Dakota) rode supreme, tying for the Round 1 win with matching 87.5-point scores at the Unleash The Beast’s PBR Cooper Tires Invitational, presented by Ariat.

Divino covered Foghorn Leghorn (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/WSM Auctioneers), while Lawrence bested Rising Sun (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls).

Divino’s qualified ride snapped a six-out buckoff streak dating to March 1, when he last reached the 8-second whistle in Kansas City en route to his first PBR Unleash The Beast event victory.

Lawrence also snapped a buckoff streak, atop a familiar foe. The North Dakotan had first attempted Rising Sun in 2018 on the premier Unleash The Beast when he rode the bovine athlete for 86.25 points in Sacramento, California.

Each rider collected a check for $3,125, in addition to a crucial 15 world points.

Divino maintained his world No. 12 rank, while Lawrence gained seven positions, climbing from No. 37 to No. 30.

In Round 2 on Sunday, Divino will attempt a bovine athlete he has never before climbed aboard in Bullseye (Owens/Wyatt/Smith/Mears). Lawrence will face his second rematch of the event, Sosa’s Alley Cat (JD Nix/Sosa Buckers), who he has mounted three times prior.

While their first two face-offs resulted in buckoffs, when last meeting in 2019 on the Unleash The Beast in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lawrence delivered an impressive 89.5-point ride.

Among the eight other riders who earned scores on Saturday night, three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves (Pilar do Sul, Brazil) further etched his name in the sport’s record books.

Alves covered Red Dawn (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) for 78.75 points, his 412th qualified ride on the premier series, tying two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (Jonesville, Louisiana) for fifth-most qualified rides ever earned on the elite Unleash The Beast.

PBR’s 2008 World Champion Guilherme Marchi (Tres Lagoas, Brazil) leads the league with 635, followed by two-time World Champion J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) with 528, 2004 World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) with 525, and Valdiron de Oliveira (Balcimo, Brazil) with 429.

World No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) continued his league-dominating 2020 season in Round 1 of the PBR Cooper Tires Invitational, presented by Ariat.

Riding Perfecto (Cord McCoy/Bruce Wold) for 84.25 points, tying for the 10th-best score of the round, Leme netted 1.5 world points to extend his season-best lead atop the world rankings.

The Brazilian phenom, a former semi-professional soccer player, now leads No. 2 Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana), who is currently sidelined due to surgery to repair an injured hamstring, by 126 points.

Courtesy of the qualified ride, Leme also cemented his league-leading position in several other statistical categories.

With a tour-best 23 qualified rides, Leme is also riding at a torrid 74.19%, also a league-best for riders who have logged a minimum of five outs on the premier series.

Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) finished third in Round 1 of the Sooner State event to earn $2,000 and nine world points.

The young gun, who remains No. 4 in the world, covered Sitting Bull (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Diamond Willow) for 87.25 points to record his first 8-second effort since mid-March in Duluth, Georgia.

Marco Eguchi (Poa, Brazil) converted aboard his re-ride draw Soup in a Group (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Wilks Ranch) to deliver the fourth-best score of the round.

The 87-point effort earned the 2018 PBR World Finals event winner a check for $1,250, along with eight world points.

Eguchi gained two positions in the world standings, climbing from No. 17 to No. 15, ahead of Round 2 when he will attempt Crossfired (JD Nix Rodeo Co.).

Rounding out the Top 5 was Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma), the first rider to log a qualified ride in the event’s opening round on Blake Snake (Wade Sundell), who, hailing from the pen of 2018 PRCA Saddle Bronc Riding World Champion Wade Sundell, was making his Unleash The Beast debut,.

Snapping a four-out buckoff streak, Eldred lit up the scoreboard for 86.75 points.

The Oklahoma cowboy netted seven world points, rising from No. 29 to No. 27 in the world.

The event also featured a breakthrough performance from reigning PBR Rookie of the Year Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas).

Recording his first qualified ride on the premier series since undergoing surgery to repair a torn groin at the conclusion of the 2019 season, the Texan covered Milburn Special (Wade Sundell) for 85 points, tying for the eighth-best score of Round 1.

Kasel earned 3.5 world points, skyrocketing from No. 169 to No. 128 in the world. The 21-year-old, who was competing via injury exemptions, is now within 68.5 points of the Top 35.
