Chisum Docheff Keeps Good Humor During Lesson

Chisum Docheff got some ProRodeo homeschooling last year courtesy some of the PRCA’s top steer wrestling talent.

Docheff got an unique learning opportunity in his backyard last June when two-time world champion Tyler Waguespack and five-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Kyle Irwin practiced at Docheff’s place in Mead, Colo.

The Mountain States Circuit cowboy gained some ProRodeo knowledge and a funny story to tell from the experience.

“I had run the steers the day before and I knew them,” Docheff said. “I told Tyler, ‘I don’t like this steer, I don’t think he’s any good.’ Tyler goes and throws the heck out of him. He said, ‘There’s nothing wrong with that steer.’

“Then another one comes in, and I’m like, ‘I don’t like this one, he’s not very good.’ Tyler runs and throws the crap out of that one, too. He said, ‘There’s nothing wrong with that steer.’”

Before another run, Docheff told Waguespack about a steer that was good.

“Well, this other one comes, and I said this one is good,” Docheff recounted. “Tyler runs him, but says that steer is no good. I said, ‘I know, but I got tired of telling you they’re terrible and you throwing the heck out of them.’”
