PRCA Standings Shuffle: Chase Brooks Moves Back Inside the Top 15

Chase Brooks is coming off his best finish in ProRodeo a year ago. The Deer Lodge, Mont., saddle bronc rider, ended the year fourth in the PRCA | RAM World Standings, earning $259,355.

He’s on a path to return to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge in 2022. Since Feb. 1, Brooks has jumped 35 spots in the world standings, going from 44th to ninth.

His jump in the standings can be credited to finishing tied for second and earning $14,520 at the Fort Worth (Texas) Stock Show & Rodeo, which concluded Feb. 5. He won one round outright and tied for another.

“I was pretty lucky, I drew some really great horses down there,” said Brooks, 27. “It was pretty much my first regular season rodeo back. I definitely feel like things are headed in the right direction for me right now.”

Brooks is coming off a broken right foot that he suffered at the 2021 NFR. He said after taking a little time off to begin the 2022 season that he feels like he’s getting closer to being 100 percent healthy.

“I tried rodeoing on that foot I broke at the NFR a little bit too much,” he said. “I made it through the (RAM Montana) Circuit Finals Rodeo and everything, but I kind of got walked down on one of the horses there. So, I decided that I needed to take Denver off after that. It sure paid off and I’m starting to feel better now.”

He said the winter rodeos always provide a big opportunity for cowboys and he hopes to take advantage of it.

“Everyone wants to get on a roll during the winter rodeos,” Brooks said. “There is so much money out there to be won. If you can have a good enough winter, you can almost guarantee yourself a spot in the Finals.

“It can also help bring momentum into the spring run and keep it rolling from there. It’s always nice to come out of the winter run already in the Top 15. I feel like it’s a lot easier to hold your spot there then it is to keep fighting to get into it.”

Even though he’s in the Top 15 right now he knows you can’t let your foot off the gas, especially with the group of guys that are competing in today’s day and age.

“You definitely have to keep hunting it. There are too many good bronc riders out there anymore,” he said. “You can never get complacent in this sport, or someone will pass you by. So, you just have to go at it hard and see what happens.”
