Matching 88s Top Field on Day 1 of 2021 UBF World Finals

By: Ted Stovin

FORT WORTH – In what were the last two fights of the evening in Round 4 at the historic Cowtown Coliseum at the Fort Worth Stockyards, Sage Seay (Hackberry, Louisiana) and Colton Orcutt (Kersey, Colorado) put up huge 88-point markings to split the win on Day 1 of the 2021 Ultimate Bullfighters (UBF) World Finals.

With $1,500 on the line in each round, Seay and Orcutt each walked away with $750 and a spot in this Saturday’s Quarter Finals.

“It felt good to be back, especially coming back at the same place when I got wrecked out last year,” Seay said. “I’ve had two fights leading up to this, and they have both been calves that I’ve fought. So, coming out tonight and really having a heater and a bull that made me work and made me grit and really get out there and fight good, it felt good to get one under me to lead going into the week.”

Seay is excited to be in Cowtown once again despite the setback here in 2020.

“It’s Cowtown. There’s nothing like Fort Worth. I mean, it’s cowboy out here,” Seay said. “To bring the bullfights out here, and all the guys, and just to break off and do our own thing, and really be the standalone event, I really think it’s going to be a big week for us out here. But just coming into the finals and being healthy was my main goal. I’m going to go from here on forward having fun and fighting bulls and putting on a show for these people in Fort Worth.”

Orcutt, the No. 7 man in the UBF World Standings, echoed similar thoughts.

“It’s a long 10 days, and you’ve got to come in with a straight head, and you’ve got to lay it on the table no matter what,” he said. “It worked out to be in my favor tonight. When you get a good bull like that’s near you the whole time, it really gets a good kick-off to the week, and it just lets you really focus on what you need to do.”

Reining UBF World Champion Chance Moorman (Lytle, Texas) was also a winner on Thursday night with a score of 81.5 in Round 3. Moorman edged Utah State’s Preston Robinson, who checked in at 74 points.

“You have to take what’s given to you and make the best out of it,” Moorman said. “I always thought it’d be the best feeling in the world coming in here being number one and being the reigning world champ. But you’re coming in here, and me and Knox have been talking about it all year; that number one spot has you looking over your shoulder all the time.

“It’s a good feeling to be number one, but it’s a hesitant feeling because you know who’s behind you.”

Roper Rich (Eaton, Colorado) won Round 1 with 82 points. Dakota Martin (Hastings, Michigan) took Round 2 with his 76-point effort on a re-fight after his first bull didn’t perform up to competitive standards.
