STETSON WRIGHT SECURES SECOND CONSECUTIVE ALL-AROUND TITLE

The drama is over in the PRCA all-around world championship race. Stetson Wright took care of that with a go-round to spare. For the second consecutive year, Wright won the all-around gold buckle. Wright clinched the title when he won Round 9 in the bull riding with a 92-point ride on Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Record Rack’s Smoke Stack, Dec. 11. At 21, Wright is the youngest cowboy to be crowned All-Around World Champion in his first two seasons. He’s trying to become the first cowboy to win the all-around gold buckle and a roughstock world championship in the same year since Ty Murray did it in 1998. Murray won the all-around and bull riding titles that year.

MONEY TALKS

With one round left, there’s plenty of money still to be won as each round of the Wrangler NFR pays $26,231 for the top score or fastest run, and the average winner earns an additional $67,269, which means a contestant could win Round 10 and the average and claim $93,500 and jump in the PRCA | RAM World Standings. However, since ground money counts in bull riding it is possible for a single bull rider to be the only one to successfully ride his bull in the final round and collect $151,884 between ground money and the average. Ground money does not count in the race for the all-around world title.

ROUND 10 TO DETERMINE MOST WORLD TITLES

Bareback riders Tim O’Connell and Kaycee Feild will fight for the world title on their final rides. O’Connell leads the world standings by $15,344 over Feild. O’Connell and Feild are tied for second in the average. Steer wrestlers Stetson Jorgenson and Jacob Edler are topping the gold buckle conversation. Jorgensen is second in the world standings and Edler is sixth, but they are first and second in the average. If Jorgenson and Edler stumble tonight, Dakota Eldridge and Tyler Waguespack are lurking. Team roping heading and heeling are too close to call. Headers Luke Brown and Erich Rogers are in the title mix with Colby Lovell. Heelers Payden Bray, Rogers’ partner, is in contention with Joseph Harrison, Brown’s partner. Saddle bronc riding will be determined between Ryder Wright and Wyatt Casper in Round 10. Wright leads the world standings by $1,314 over Casper. Wright is first in the average with 785.5 points on nine head, followed by Casper with 690.5 points on eight head. Tie-down roper Shad Mayfield, who came into the Wrangler NFR with an $89,479 lead, is trying to hold off Marty Yates and Shane Hanchey. Hanchey and Yates are first and second in the average, respectively, on nine head, and coupling the average money and round money at stake they have a shot to upend Mayfield. Barrel racer Hailey Kinsel leads the world standings and is on the cusp of winning her third consecutive world title. Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi still mathematically has a chance to win the world title. In bull riding. Stetson Wright is in a tight battle to win his first career bull riding world championship. He’s second in the world standings and trails leader Ty Wallace by a mere $82. With ground money counting in the world standings, however, the race remains wide open.
