WEATHER GUARD PRCA World Standings Watch: Standings Shuffle – 22 Cowboys Move Up

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Every dollar counts in the race for a spot in the Top 15 and a chance to compete at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER in December.

Although this past week didn’t have any high-dollar rodeos, some lucky cowboys made substantial moves in the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings. Steer roper Roger Branch moved from 25th to 14th after ranking second in the average at the M.M. Fisher, Jr. Memorial Steer Roping in Andrews, Texas, on March 12. Saddle bronc rider Clay Elliott moved from 20th to 13th after winning the Arcadia All-Fla Championship Rodeo on March 12.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up for a qualifying position in the world standings, so it’s important to build a solid lead as the summer season approaches.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between March 6 and March 13.

Roger Branch moved from 25th to 14th in steer roping
Clay Elliott moved from 20th to 13th in saddle bronc riding
Matt Shiozawa moved from 18th to 15th in tie-down roping
Tyler Corrington moved from 18th to 15th in saddle bronc riding
Roscoe Jarboe moved from 5th to 3rd in bull riding
Vin Fisher Jr. moved from 10th to 8th in steer roping
Garrett Rogers moved from 11th to 9th in team roping
Jake Minor moved from 11th to 9th in team roping
Brady Portenier moved from 14th to 12th in bull riding
Orin Larsen moved from 15th to 13th in bareback riding
JoJo LeMond moved from 3rd to 2nd in steer roping
Hardy Braden moved from 5th to 4th in saddle bronc riding
Tony Reina moved from 7th to 6th in steer roping
Cody DeMoss moved from 9th to 8th in saddle bronc riding
Shane Hanchey moved from 9th to 8th in tie-down roping
Chance Howard moved from 13th to 12th in steer wrestling
Mason Clements moved from 11th to 10th in bareback riding
Cody Good moved from 14th to 13th in steer roping
Blaine Jones moved from 14th to 15th in steer wrestling

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Steer roper J. Tom Fisher is $451 away from No. 15.
• Bull rider Guthrie Murray is $1,787 away from No. 15.
• Bareback rider Luke Creasy is $2,018 away from No. 15.

With Rodeo Austin underway and more big rodeos are on the horizon, such as the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo and RAM National Circuit Finals Steer Roping in April, the outcomes of these rodeos and others are sure to impact the world standings in a big way, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete in Las Vegas.

Check back with prorodeo.com next week to see who the leaders are in the world standings.
