Blanco Wins First BlueDEF Velocity Tour Event

PUEBLO, Colo. – Luis Blanco (Icanga, Brazil) covered both of his bulls in impressive fashion during the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) BlueDEF Velocity Tour (BDVT) event at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, on Feb. 28 to capture his first BDVT win of the season.

He earned 80 points toward the PBR world standings, and was one of only two riders to go perfect on the weekend.

With the win he also earned a spot in the upcoming PBR Built Ford Tough Series Fresno Invitational, taking place March 7-8, at Save Mart Center. Winners of each 2015 BDVT event will be guaranteed a minimum of one opportunity to compete at a Built Ford Tough Series regular season event in an attempt to win enough points to rank among the Top 35 and earn a spot on the elite tour.

Blanco’s first-career 91-point ride aboard Big Cool (Corey & Lane/Flying Diamond Rodeo) topped Wallace Vieira de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil) in the championship round to secure the first place finish.

The 28-year-old rode his way into the championship round after finishing in sixth place during Round 1. Oliveira entered the final round of the event in the lead after a Round 1 ride of 85.5 points.

Blanco and Wallace were the only two riders to go the full 8 seconds in the championship round.

Wallace finished second and earned 50 points toward the world standings. Roscoe Jarboe (New Plymouth, Idaho) finished in third and fifth place to earn a total of 37.5 world points. Per BDVT rules, a bull rider may enter an event as many times as he chooses. Some riders have been known to enter two, or even three times.

Weberson Duarte (Tioga, Texas) finished in a tie with Jarboe for third place, and Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) finished in a tie for fifth place with Jarboe.

This weekend, the BlueDEF Velocity Tour will visit two cities, Hampton, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida.

The Hampton Coliseum hosts the Hampton, Virginia, BlueDEF Velocity Tour event on Saturday, March 7. Sam O’Connor (Tully, Australia), Billy Robinson (Galax, Virginia) and Harve Stewart (Stephenville, Texas) will be some of the riders competing.

The Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena will host Jordan Hupp (Stephenville, Texas), Thad Newell (Fort Gibson, Oklahoma) and Brant Atwood (Pampa, Texas) during the Saturday, March 7, BlueDEF Velocity Tour event in Jacksonville, Florida.

In the Touring Pro Division, Cody Tyler White (Talala, Oklahoma) came in first place and earned 60 points toward the world standings in Johnson City, Tennessee, at the Freedom Hall Civic Center on Feb. 27-28.

White was one of five riders to cover both of their bulls as he finished with a total ride score of 170.5 points and earned $4,479.08. Cody Rodeo Tyler (Perry, Oklahoma) finished in second place with a total ride score of 163.5 points. He earned $2,803.69 and 30 points toward the world standings.

With a score of 145 points, Guthrie Long (Pecos, Texas) finished in fourth place and earned 15 points towards the world standings. Kyle Carson (Eastland, Texas) and Brenton Chaffin (Ryner, Virginia) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

On March 7 the Touring Pro Division stops in San Antonio at Cowboys Dancehall. Lane Nobles (China Spring, Texas), Francisco Morales (Irapuato, Brazil) and Derek Powell (Kerrville, Texas) are some of the riders in the line-up.
