SASKATOON, Saskatchewan – Jordan Hansen won Round 1 of the 2015 Dakota Dunes Casino PBR Canada Finals at the Sasktel Centre on Friday night.
Hansen rode Last Wish for 86.5 points, two points better than the next best contestant.
The three-time PBR Canada Finalist earned 200 points toward the year-end title and leads the event average heading into Saturday night. He also picked up $1,600 in earnings thus far.
2014 PBR Canada Finals event winner and three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy is tied with Cawl Braithwaite for second in the event. Roy and Braithwaite checked in at 84.5 points each on Wanderlust and Hand Burner, respectively. Both earned 110 points tonight and a check for $1,000.
Roy remains in another race as well.
With a berth at the Calgary Stampede on the line for the top bull rider on the season, there’s more than the $40,000 this weekend up for grabs. Mathematically, there are 10 men left in the race for the spot at July’s Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
However, it’ll take a win in both rounds and the aggregate for Roy to catch Josh Birks.
Tanner Byrne leads the PBR Canada standings and has already qualified for the 2016 Calgary Stampede thanks to his eighth-place finish last year in the PBR’s world standings.
Byrne got on the board with a score of 77 points in Round 1, but finished in a tie for 12th overall.
Rounding out the Top-5 in Round 1 were Dakota Buttar and Brady Oleson.
