Reigning Rookie of the Year Wins Round 1 in Thackerville

Joao Ricardo Vieira took Round 1 in Thackerville, Oklahoma.


THACKERVILLE, Okla. – It was Professional Bull Riders 2013 Rookie of the Year Joao Ricardo Vieira who took Round 1 of the Built Ford Tough Series WinStar World Casino & Resort Invitational in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

Vieira covered Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) for 88.75 points to put him on top Friday night.

Reigning PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney placed second with 88 points atop More Big Bucks (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/White), while Josh Faircloth rode Wiggin Out (D&H Cattle Co./Wiggins) for a score of 87.25 points and a third-place finish.

Rounding out the Top 5 were 2012 PBR Rookie of the Year Emilio Resende with 87 points on Lil’ Z (Martinez/Chism Bull Co.), while Stetson Lawrence, Kody Lostroh and J.W. Harris tied for fifth place with 86.75 points each.

Round 1 was also an American Bucking Bull Inc. Classic event. Thirty-six bulls competed for a prize purse of more than $35,000 in Round 1.

The ABBI, which introduces young bucking bulls at select BFTS and Touring Pro Division events, is dedicated to unifying, developing and promoting the bucking bull industry through pedigree preservation, enhancement and promotion of bucking bull ownership, breeding, and welfare. The organization also has development programs and holds events showcasing the world’s finest bucking bull stock. The ABBI is the third-largest cattle registry in the world and is set up to record and preserve the pedigrees of the world’s premier bucking bulls.

Margy Time (D&H Cattle Co.) took first place with a bull score of 45.25 points and took home $10,260 after bucking off veteran Kasey Hayes in 1.77 seconds. Pearl Harbor finished in second place to take home $6,368 after being marked 44.75 points for his quick work of Marco Eguchi in 2.11 seconds.

Guytin Tsosie was tossed from third-place finisher Set ‘em up Joe (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/White) in 1.75 seconds for a bull score of 44 points and $4,422.

Round 2 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round of the WinStar World Casino & Resort Invitational will take place Saturday night. Both rounds will be broadcast on CBS Network Television Sunday, August 31, at 8 p.m. ET.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.

The WinStar World Casino & Resort is the 20th stop of 27 on the 2014 PBR Built Ford Tough Series schedule. The season kicked off Jan. 3-5 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The season will conclude at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 22-26, when the 2014 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most points during the 2014 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus.
