History of the Crown: Miss Rodeo New Mexico

The Miss Rodeo New Mexico crown was first used by Miss Rodeo New Mexico 2001 Shalei Erramouspe. It was created by Tres Rios Silver with the Zia symbol and turquoise stone. The Zia symbol represents the four directions, four stages of life, four times of the day, the four seasons and a circle to bind the elements together. It stems from the Zia Pueblo and has been adopted as the New Mexico state symbol. Turquoise is New Mexico’s state gem. This crown has been worn proudly for over 20 years by women who have loved New Mexico and the sport of rodeo.
