PUEBLO, Colo. – Mauricio Moreira sure seemed poised for an electric 90-point bull ride aboard I’m Legit Too this past weekend at the PBR Wrangler Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires, in Billings, Montana.
However, Moreira was unable to handle the continuous force from I’m Legit Too as the Hart Cattle Company bovine athlete erupted during this weekend’s 15/15 Bucking Battle, continuously getting stronger and stronger with each buck.
I’m Legit Too was marked 46.25 points for the 6.88-second buckoff inside MetraPark Arena. It was the kind of out that had two-time World Champion Justin McBride comparing I’m Legit Too’s effort to that of a Bull of the Year contender on CBS national television.
This weekend was I’m Legit Too’s first 46-plus outing since ending last year’s regular season with a 46.25-point effort for bucking off J.B. Mauney in 7.25 seconds in Nampa, Idaho.
I’m Legit Too is ranked ninth in the 2021 YETI World Champion Bull standings with a 45.03-point average on his top eight outs. Overall, I’m Legit Too is 7-3 with an average bull score of 44.68 points.
Here are some other noteworthy statistics from this weekend’s competition in Billings
12: Jose Vitor Leme’s 93.25-point ride on Diddy Wa Diddy in the championship round was his 12th 90-point ride on the Unleash The Beast this season. Leme is now five 90-point rides away from breaking Cody Hart’s single-season record of 16 90-point rides (1999), and he is way ahead of Hart’s 1999 pace. Leme has needed only 32 outs to reach 12 90-point rides compared to Hart, who needed 53 outs to notch his 12th.
91.83: Leme’s 12 90-point rides have an average score of 91.83 points. Hart’s first 12 90s in 1999 averaged 92.29.
11: Leme’s third event win has him on top of the world standings, but 2018 World Champion Kaique Pacheco limited Leme’s damage in Billings by finishing second in the event and the 15/15 Bucking Battle. Therefore, Leme, who was bucked off by Boogie Bomb in the 15/15 Bucking Battle, was only able to gain 11 points on Pacheco, the No. 2-ranked bull rider in the world standings, in the three-day event. Leme leads Pacheco by 38.5 points heading into this weekend’s PBR Bad Boy Mowers Invitational, presented by Union Home Mortgage, in Jacksonville, Florida.
25: Pacheco went 4-for-5 in Billings, and he leads the Unleash The Beast with 25 qualified rides. Pacheco should easily surpass his 2020 total of 31 qualified rides, and he may be able to post 50 rides for the second time in his career. He recorded 52 rides in 2016, and the only other rider to record 50 or more rides in one year since then was Leme (51 rides in 2019).
73: Chase Dougherty obviously will be frustrated with his chute disqualification in the championship round on Sunday, putting a damper on his fourth-place finish in Billings. However, Dougherty still earned 73 points toward the world standings to cut the deficit between himself and Rookie of the Year leader Colten Fritzlan to 112 points. Dougherty’s 90.5-point ride on Bread Basket to win Round 1 on Friday night was his second 90-point ride of the season. He is the only rookie to record a score in the 90s this season.
9: Cody Teel moved up nine positions in the world rankings courtesy of his 15/15 Bucking Battle victory and third-place finish in Billings. Teel went a combined 4-for-5 in Billings with two 90-point rides. It is his first weekend on the premier series with four or more rides since the 2019 season-opener in New York City.
22: There were only 22 healthy riders available for Championship Sunday as injuries began to pile up in Billings. Nine riders were injured on Saturday night during either Round 2 or the 15/15 Bucking Battle who could not compete Sunday.
