Losnake Captures PBR Challenger Series Event in Window Rock, Arizona

By: Mandi McCary

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Brazilian rookie Vitor Losnake (Bauru, Brazil) stood on the dirt at the Dean C. Jackson Memorial Arena with triumphant tears streaming down his face Tuesday night after winning the Buckin’ on the Rez PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series event in Window Rock, Arizona.

As the one-night event began, Losnake was paired with Rank Sauce (3G Bucking Bulls) in the opening round. Assisted by his fellow Arizona Ridge Riders teammates and coaches Paulo Crimber and Colby Yates as he prepared to take on the dynamic animal athlete, Losnake was laser-focused as he rocketed from the chutes and collected an 85.5-point score.

The talented young rider then delivered the highest-marked ride of the event in the championship round when he bested Fire Ant (Mason Bucking Bulls) for 88 points.

“I am so happy,” said a visibly emotional Losnake. “There aren’t enough words to describe how happy I am and I want to thank my mom, dad and sister for how hard it was to be here. This is a dream come true.”

Losnake leaves Arizona with 41 Challenger Series points as he heads to the PBR Team Series’ Cowboy Days event in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he is anticipated to make his debut Sept. 9-11.

Hot on Losnake’s heels was fellow countryman Leandro Machado (Nova Esperanca, Brazil) collecting a second-place finish.

Beginning the night aboard Punch Drunk (Hurst Pro Rodeo), the Missouri Thunder man punched his ticket into the championship round with an 82-point score in Round 1.

Tasked with taking on Kapt’n Krunch (Crooked Crown Bucking Bulls/ Braswell Bucking Bulls) in the championship round, Machado exploded out of the chutes, taking an early lead with an 85-point score.

Despite being overtaken by Losnake, Machado departs the annual event with 25 Challenger Series points.

On a night where Brazilian riders placed in four out of the Top 5 spots on the leaderboard, Carlos Gomes Junior (Carmo de Minas, Brazil) finished in third place, collecting 14 Challenger Series points.

After riding Brayton’s Badd (4B Bucking Bulls) for an underwhelming 75 points in the opening round, the 30-year-old Brazilian knew his championship round ride aboard Hollywood (TDS/ Buentello Bucking Bulls) needed to rocket him up the leaderboard. Firing from the chutes, he collected 84 points to finish the night.

California cowboy Aaron Williams (Pismo Beach, California) secured a fourth-place finish courtesy of his 86.5-point score in Round 1 aboard 401 (Mason Bucking Bulls).

Despite being tossed to the ground by Barracuda (Hurst Pro Rodeo) in the championship round, the 26-year-old still collected 13 Challenger Series points.

Rounding out the Top 5 in Window Rock was Brazilian rider Wingson Henrique da Silva (Navirai, Brazil).

After collecting a solid 84 points aboard Devil Dog (Hurst Pro Rodeo) as the night began, Silva came down just short of the 8 in the final round when Lost Harbor (Yount Bucking Bulls, LLC.) dispatched him at 7.87 seconds.

Despite his shortcomings in the championship round, Silva collected 7 Challenger Series points.

Window Rock native Cody Jesus (Window Rock, Arizona) had Navajo Nation fans at a deafening roar when he was in complete control aboard Skeebo (TDS/ Buentello Bucking Bulls) for an 82.5-point opening round. However, to the dismay of his hometown crowd, Jesus faltered as the night ended, bucking off of Border Dust (Owen Washburn) just 2.73 seconds into his attempt. Despite the setback, the Texas Rattlers’ rider still finished the event seventh overall.
