Munsell Cashes in Big Over the Weekend

WPRA Breakaway Roper Taylor Munsell had a very profitable weekend in Rapid City, S.D., winning not only the PRCA/WPRA Breakaway Roping title but also the average title at the WPRA co-approved roping, the Northern Breakaway Championship, in Rapid City.

Munsell of Alva, Oklahoma, stopped the clock in 2.1 seconds during the Range Days Rodeo to the tune of a $4,843 payday just a tick ahead of Hope Thompson with a 2.2.

“Had a super blessed weekend in SD,” wrote Munsell on her Facebook page. “Ended up winning the breakaway at the Rapid City Pro Rodeo with a 2.1 and also placed in a round and won the average at the Northern Breakaway Championship Friday in Rapid City. Thankful to have both my horses feeling amazing right now. Big shout out to all my sponsors and everyone else that helps make what I do possible!”

Munsell is currently ranked 19th in the WPRA ProRodeo World Breakaway Standings with $6,163 won at PRCA/WPRA ProRodeos after adding the $4,843 from Rapid City.

As she stated in her social media post, she added to her bank account at the WPRA co-approved jackpot in Rapid City finishing 6th in the second round in a time of 2.74 and winning the average in a two run time of 8.38 seconds picking up another $4,780. That amount was added to her WPRA Breakaway standings where she is currently ranked fifth in the world with $28,001 won at co-approved events. Jackie Crawford finished second to Munsell at the Northern Breakaway Championship with a total time of 9.72 seconds. Crawford is currently ranked third in the WPRA standings with $54,299 and second in the Pro Rodeo standings with $19,865.

On the barrel racing side Tiany Schuster and Show Mance continued to clock this time taking the win in Tremonton, Utah, with a 16.99 second run. Destri Devenport was the next closest with a time of 17.04. Schuster added $2,908 to her earnings with just a month left now in the regular season rodeo schedule. Schuster is currently ranked ninth with $46,124 and looking for her second Wrangler NFR qualification.

“Show Mance for the win at Tremonton,” wrote Schuster on Facebook following the winning run. “When I count my blessings I count Show Mance twice!!!

Schuster also placed fourth (17.15 seconds) at the Range Days Rodeo in Rapid City, S.D., a rodeo won by Margaret Poloncic in a time of 17.07 seconds, just ahead of Emily Miller with a 17.08 second run. Poloncic won $2,621, while Schuster added $1,572 and Miller $2,228.
