Rookie Star Rocker Steiner Shines at Calgary Stampede

Some cowboys melt in the big spotlight – others thrive.

Bareback rider Rocker Steiner is definitely the latter.

The PRCA rookie star proved that once again on Friday at the prestigious Calgary Stampede.

Steiner has won more than $16,000 at the Calgary Stampede and has qualified for the semifinal round.

“This has been a great experience,” said Steiner, 18. “Everybody always talked about how great the Calgary Stampede is and they definitely are not lying. The crowds have been big, and the horses are great. It has been a lot of fun.

“I have had some good horses and things have worked out for me.”

The Calgary Stampede is in full swing, and the lucrative rodeo is a key stop on the NFR Playoff Series presented by Pendleton Whisky.

The Calgary Stampede continues July 15-17 and starts at 1:30 p.m. each day.

Steiner started things off by winning the first round with an 87.5-point ride on Duane Kesler’s Little Rotten. Then he won today with an 89.5-point ride on Wayne Vold Rodeo Company’s Dancing Queen.

Steiner is eighth in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $69,931. He’s also leading the bareback riding Resistol Rookie of the Year Standings.

Steiner returns to action in Calgary July 17 for the 12-man semifinals. The top four semifinal finishers move on to the sudden death Showdown Round later that day.

“I’m super stoked,” said Steiner about moving on to the semis. “That means I’m two horses away from winning. I’m pretty jack up.”

Performing on Calgary’s big stage is something Steiner has welcomed.

“I just kind of want to show everybody how good I am,” Steiner said. “I have a lot to prove and that’s what runs through my mind. It makes me ride a lot better. The more people that there are the more people I want to show something. I guess the big stages I strive better.”
