Fun Facts about Clay: He set a new career earnings record for team ropers already this year surpassing Clay O’Brien Cooper and Rich Skelton. Prior to running his first steer at his 20th WNFR, he has career earnings of $3,075,813 and he doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. He started out the year with a win at Rodeo Houston with partner Jake Long. When Jake and Clay Smith decided to rope together, it put Clay in a spot to rope with Jade Corkill who was his partner when he won his last two gold buckles. They placed at Reno, won Cheyenne and have both added to their bank accounts. A lot of this year’s success has come aboard a Montana born and bred mare, BulletsOvrNiteSuxess, a 12-year-old that he calls JLo. Clay and his wife Bobbi make their home near Lipan, Texas, but he will always call Montana home. They are the proud parents of three boys, Tyler, Baylon and Dash.
