Fun Facts about Nelson: While this is his second Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification, it will be his first time to nod his head in the Thomas and Mack Arena. He qualified in 2020 when it was held at Globe Life Field in Texas roping with Levi Lord. He has proven that he can handle a steer for a variety of heelers just this season. In 2022, he decided to spend the end of the season in Texas to qualify for their circuit finals. That paid off when he won that heading for Tyler Worley. That set them up for the NFR Open, which they also won. Early this year he roped with Justin Davis, then before the summer teamed up with Chase Tryan. Jonathan Torres will be his partner in Las Vegas. Nelson went to college at the University of West Alabama and got his teaching degree in physical education. He also qualified for the College National Finals in team roping. Team roping isn’t Nelson’s only event. In college he competed in tie-down roping and steer wrestling as well. That talent saw him earning the 2017 all-around Resistol Rookie of the Year title.
