MELYNDA SLETTEN
MISS RODEO SOUTH DAKOTA
COYOTE STATE

Melynda Sletten (South Dakota)

Melynda Sletten is from Aberdeen, South Dakota where she works as a licensed cosmetologist and plans to complete her Microderm Abrasion Certification and open her own salon. Being outdoors with her horses is an important hobby and is inspired by the world around her in which she captures them by painting and drawing.

Melynda has partnered with the Stand-Up program which is an anti-bullying school program where students draw different horses during her class visits and reaffirms the celebration, not critiscm of everyone’s uniqueness. Her favorite organization to volunteer her time is with the SPURS Therapeutic Riding Center where autism and wheelchairs are no longer a hinderance.

“Miss Rodeo America is a full time job. For several years, my profession involved making people feel good about themselves. These business and interpersonal skills will translate into each aspect of what Miss Rodeo America embodies. She is a calm, compassionate, confident cowgirl who has enough grit to do more than what is expected. As an artistic educator, outdoor enthusiast, motivated mentor, and compassionate friend, I look forward to the challenge of putting those skills to the test. In our ever changing economy, we continue to need role models with a strong foundation. Miss Rodeo America is a true business woman through promoting rodeo’s generous sponsors, celebrating our equine athletes, and making new rodeo fans. As I have helped paint a bigger picture for others and their goals, I am excited for the opportunity to grow myself, to represent not just South Dakota, but all our American cowboys and cowgirls.”
