2016 Calgary Stampede Parade Hits the Streets of Calgary

Calgary – On Friday, July 8, led by Parade marshals Jann Arden and Paul Brandt the Calgary Stampede Parade will once again hit the streets of Calgary. For the last 104 years, the Calgary Stampede Parade has been the official kickoff to The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth!

“The Calgary Stampede Parade committee is excited to kick-off the 2016 edition of the Calgary Stampede Parade,” says Michael Wetherup, Chair of the Parade committee. “We have put together a fantastic lineup of colourful floats, bands, and entries that will make this Parade one of the most memorable yet.”

The Stampede Parade is not just a parade marching down a street; it is a march through tradition, history and local Calgary culture. This year’s Parade features a colourful and exciting line up of 125 entries, including 35 floats, 15 marching bands, more than 700 horses (including one very large 3,000 pound Brahma bull named Wild West Willie), and approximately 4,000 participants. A highlight of this year’s Parade will include a special parade entry to recognize the collective effort of the women and men who courageously and selflessly supported the Fort McMurray and Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo wildfire response.

Parade fans are encouraged to participate through social media. Bring your smartphone to the Parade and vote for your favourite entry. When you see an entry you like – look for the entry number sign displayed with each entry. Text the entry number to 12312. You can vote as often as you want; texts are free! Each text you send will be entered in a draw to win a prize package from soft rock 97.7 that includes four tickets to see Lady Antebellum at the Scotiabank Saddledome in September as well as a VIP Barn Tour and four VIP tickets to the Bell Adrenaline Ranch. The winning entry also gets a trophy from soft rock 97.7.

The Calgary Stampede Parade is organized by a team of passionate volunteers who make up the Parade committee. The Calgary Stampede is July 8-17, 2016. The Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8.
