Aparecido Rides to Second 15/15 Bucking Battle Win of 2017

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – In the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) seventh consecutive visit to Thackerville, Oklahoma, Eduardo Aparecido logged his second 15/15 Bucking Battle victory of the season, earning the win at the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS)  WinStar World Casino and Resort Invitational.

Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) rode Honey Hush (Swinging C Cattle Co./Hodges Bucking Bulls) for 89.25 points to win the special round on Saturday night, earning the No. 2 bull rider in the world standings $7,500 and 150 points toward the world standings.

The winning ride came during one of several highly anticipated rematches in the 15/15 Bucking Battle. Aparecido was the first cowboy to reach 8 seconds aboard Honey Hush, riding him during his rookie season for 87.25 points at the 2013 Kansas City Invitational.

The 27-year-old Brazilian arrived in Thackerville having just relinquished the top spot in the world standings for the first time in six months at the last event in Nashville. His 15/15 Bucking Battle victory now puts him within 210 points of world leader Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil). Pacheco failed to log a qualified ride Saturday night.

Aparecido’s first 15/15 Bucking Battle win of 2017 came in January at the Frontier Communications Sacramento Clash.

Guilherme Marchi (Itupeva, Brazil) and Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) tied for second place after delivering matching 87.75-point rides. Marchi made the 8 seconds aboard Uncle Tink (Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team), while Vieira covered Fire Rock (Hart Cattle Company).

Both riders were competing as alternates in the 15/15 Bucking Battle after Matt Triplett (Columbia Falls, Montana) and Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) were unable to compete because of injuries sustained during Round 1.

The Brazilian duo each picked up $5,000 and 82.25 world points for the finish.

2016 Rookie of the Year Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) finished fourth as the final rider to log a qualified ride. The 19-year-old phenom rode Wired Child (01 Cattle Co.) for 85.75 points to earn $3,500 and 60 world points.

Much like Aparecido, Lockwood’s performance also allowed him to close the gap between him and Pacheco. Ranked No.3 in the world, Lockwood now trails Pacheco by 580 points.

CBS Sports will broadcast the 15/15 Bucking Battle Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.

Stormy Wing (Dalhart, Texas) won his seventh round of the season during Round 1 of the WinStar World Casino and Resort Invitational when he covered Call The Law (Cord McCoy/K Bar C Bucking Bulls) for 88.5 points.

Wing, who now leads the BFTS for most round wins this season alongside Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas), earned $3,864 and 100 points for the victory.

The Texan rose three spots in the world standings and is ranked No. 8 courtesy of the win.

Second place went to Stetson Lawrence (Williston, North Dakota), who was the first rider to cover his Round 1 draw Saturday evening.

Lawrence logged an 88.25-point trip aboard Wild Sky’s (Owens/Wyatt), earning $3,034 and 60 world points.

Marco Antonio Eguchi (Poa, Brazil) was third, riding The Rising Sun(Floyd/Chad Berger/Heald Pro Bulls) for 87 points to earn $2,284 and 50 world points.

In fourth place was Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee). He covered Wacker Kat (Wild Cactus Ranch) for 81.5 points, taking home $1,584 and 40 world points at the end of the first night of competition.

Marchi, the only rider to deliver a qualified ride in both rounds, completed the Top 5. The 2008 World Champion rode The Hard Stuff (Samford/Schroeder) for 73 points to earn an additional $1,134 and 30 world points.

After recording two qualified rides in Thackerville, Marchi increased his PBR career-rides record to 604.

Collectively, Marchi earned $6,134 and 112.25 points during night one of competition.

American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) also held a Big Tex Classic event for their 3- and 4-year-old bulls in conjunction with Round 1 of the WinStar World Casino and Resort Invitational. Bushwacked (Ohl/Herb/McDowell/Camozzi) was the top ranked bull, scoring 88.25 points.

Second place was a four-way tie between Bezerk ( Robinson/BMC ), Opus(McCoy Ranches ), Livin’ Large (Martinez Bucking Bulls )and Smooth Over(GT Bucking Bulls/Rendall Thompson), who were all awarded scores of 88 points. The Top 40 ABBI Classic bulls in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season on Oct. 2 will compete in Las Vegas at the ABBI World Finals, where the winner will earn $100,000.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will return to the Colosseum at the WinStar World Casino and Resort for Championship Sunday of the PBR WinStar World Casino and Resort Invitational tomorrow evening. Each rider will face one more bull in Round 2 before the Top 15 riders advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, where a winner will be crowned.

The action will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET on PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app, both of which are free to fans. CBS Sports Network will also broadcast Championship Sunday starting at 8 p.m. ET.
