Brunner, Bingham Take Event Leads at Fort Worth Rodeo

FORT WORTH, Texas — A horse made all the difference in the steer wrestling at the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on Tuesday night.

That horse, a 10-year-old mare took Tanner Brunner and Sean Mulligan to first and second place in the overall standings, and she has a very special place in Mulligan’s heart.

“She was born on our place, and to have one that you raised perform like she does is very rewarding,” Mulligan said. “I can’t tell you how proud I am to have one that we raised, and trained from start to finish do what she has done.”

Mulligan competed first on the mare they call “Holly.” He stopped the clock in 4.6 seconds to move into third in the second round. He had a solid run in the first round and was in first place overall with a total time of 9.4. Then he climbed on his hazing horse, another mare called Karma.

Brunner got on Holly and moved Mulligan down one spot in the overall standings. The Ramona, Kansas resident stopped the clock in 4.7 seconds. He had placed fifth in the first round and has already won $2,346. His total of 9.0 is now atop the leaderboard.

Both these horses are out of a stallion owned by Sean and his wife Bryel Mulligan, Lion’s Share of Fame. He has passed some valuable characteristics to his offspring according to Sean.

“These horses are smart and have great dispositions,” he said. “They have cow sense and, of course, they can run. It all adds up to horses that are great in the arena and are fun to ride. They worked really well in Fort Worth. It’s an old-school traditional rodeo with 200 steer wrestlers. I love it here.”

Tyler Bingham may be the lesser known of two bull riding brothers from Honeyville, Utah, but the younger sibling of three-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) cowboy Tim Bingham has moved to the top of the leaderboard.

After taking the lead in the first round on Monday night with an 81.5-point ride, Tyler rode a black Rafter G Rodeo bull named Johnny Cash for 85 points on Tuesday. That put him second in round two, just two points behind former world champion Cody Teel. More importantly, Bingham’s total of 166.5 vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard.

Two other cowboys – Californian Colby Demo and Texan Tristan Mize – moved into second and third place overall after back-to-back rides Monday and Tuesday. All three cowboys have a good chance to be among the 12 bull riders who qualify for the championship finals on February 3.

The World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® continues its 100th anniversary edition Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Fort Worth’s historic Will Rogers Coliseum.
