Canadian Team Cattle Penning National Finals Set to Take Place at Stampede Park

Calgary – Canada’s largest annual team cattle penning competition takes place this weekend in the Agrium Western Event Centre at Stampede Park. The Canadian Team Cattle Penning National Finals are open to the public, with free admission, from eight a.m. to 10 p.m. October 7 – 10.

382 competitors are travelling to Calgary from across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, BC, Montana and Oregon. They will be vying for nearly half a million in payouts throughout the long weekend.

For those unfamiliar with penning, the object of the sport is for three team members on horseback to collect three head of cattle with the same numbers on them from a herd of thirty animals. The team then attempts to put its three head of cattle into a small pen at the other end of the arena. All this must be done in 90 seconds or less – but preferably much less!
