SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Rodeo fans would be hard pressed to find anyone that has been more consistent than Ryan Jarrett through two rounds of competition at this year’s San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo.

Jarrett, from Comanche, Okla., competed in bracket 5 in the tie-down roping in the AT&T Center on Sunday. He won the first round of the bracket with an 8.0-second run to earn $2,281. Sunday evening saw him stopping the clock in 7.5 seconds, just one-tenth of a second out of first place. Clint Nyegaard from Cuero, Texas won the round with a 7.4. Jarrett still won $1,711 and leads the money standings in tie-down roping with $3,635 putting him in good shape for the semifinals.

The semifinals starts on Tuesday night and will run two separate competitions over four nights. The top four money earning contestants out of each bracket will compete in one of the two semifinals. Total earnings throughout all of the competition will determine who qualifies for next Saturday night’s championship finals.

Jarrett has yet to win a championship buckle from the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo. He has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo nine times and left Las Vegas in 2005 with the gold buckle for being the world champion all-around cowboy. That year he competed at rodeo’s championship event in the steer wrestling as well as the tie-down roping.

He is currently fourth in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings. A win here could easily move him up to the top spot and put him in contention for another gold buckle, this time in the tie-down roping.

A group of Canadians are doing really well here in the fifth bracket. Bareback riders Kyle Bowers and Kody Lamb won the first and second round. In the team roping, Levi Simpson and Jeremy Buhler won the first round. Jake Watson tied for the win in the first round of saddle bronc riding and watched fellow Canadian Layton Green win the second round. In fact, 12 out of the 50 contestants in this bracket are from Canada with half of them having won a round here.

The final round of bracket 5 starts Monday night at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature competition from semifinals 1. Semifinals 2 will be held on Thursday and Friday.
