SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – PBR (Professional Bull Riders) rookie Cooper Davis covered You’re Next (New Frontier Rodeo) for 88 points to take the lead in the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) PFI Invitational, presented by Bass Pro Shops and brought to you locally by Sonic, at the JQH Arena Friday night.
“It felt really good,” Davis said. “I’ve been working really hard and I’m glad to see it’s paid off.”
He earned 100 points toward the PBR world standings for the first-place finish.
As the round winner, Davis also had the opportunity to attempt the Bounty Bull, BootDaddy.com (J.A.R.S. Bucking Bulls/Gene Owen), for $5,000. Scoring 88.5 points for his successful 8-second ride, Davis earned the bonus.
In honor of the PBR’s Pink Night to bring awareness to the fight against breast cancer, $6,000 was donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks by local Springfield businesses including Phoenix Home Care, Morgan Stanley, American Detection Specialists, Mike Manzardo, Christenson Transportation and Thompson Sales Company.
2014 PBR Rookie of the Year J.W. Harris placed second in Round 1 with an 87.5-point ride on Legacy (2 K) and added 60 points to his world standings total.
The current No. 1 man in the PBR world standings, J.B. Mauney, earned another 50 points for his third-place finish in the round to extend his overall season lead (302.5 points) after reaching the 8-second mark on Spin Machine (Jerry & Aaron Halpain) for an 87.25-point score.
Stetson Lawrence landed fourth place and picked up 40 points towards the world standings with an 87-point performance on Slinger Jr. (Carpenter/VonGontard/Rocking I Rodeo/Treichel), a bull that’s never been ridden. Brady Sims, Chase Outlaw and Aaron Roy all earned 10 points apiece after tying for fifth place with 86.5 points on Come On Baby (Cord McCoy/Tim Dougherty), What A Burger (DAM Cattle Co.) and Ms. Kitty’sPeacemaker (Dennis and Christine Pevehouse/The Jaynes Gang), respectively.
Day one of the two round ABBI Super Classic saw Bruiser (D&H/Buck) take the lead with a 91.25. Currently in second is Wired Child (01 Cattle Co.) with a score of 91. Buck Autism (D&H/Bay Farms) currently sits third with 89.75.
Round 2 will take place on Sunday, where the bulls will buck again and the highest cumulative score will take home $19,000. Over $65,000 will be paid out to the Classic bulls this weekend.
Round 2 of the PFI Invitational, presented by Bass Pro Shops and brought to you locally Sonic, takes place Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. CT. Springfield is the 23rd stop on the 2015 Built Ford Tough Series. The season will culminate with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 21-25 when the 2015 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most points during the 2015 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus.
