DeMoss Brothers Have Success at Cody Stampede

Cody DeMoss Cody Stampede

CODY, Wyo. – It was a good night for the saddle bronc riding DeMoss brothers in Cody on Saturday.

Eldest of the duo, Cody, took the lead after scoring 84.5 points on Frontier Rodeo’s horse Griz. Griz is a 15-year-old gelding that cowboys love to get on because nearly every time they ride him, they get a check. So, he was happy when he found out that this was the horse he was getting on here.

“I really needed this,” he said. “That horse was outstanding and fun to ride.”

Prior to this ride, Cody was 27th in the world standings. If he holds onto first place here, he could win over $8,000 which would give him a big boost. That would help him qualify for his 12th Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Cody’s younger brother Heith had the third highest score of the night and is currently in fourth place. He had an 80.5-point ride so right now, they are both in the money. Brody Cress, from Hillsdale, Wyo., was just one point ahead with an 81.5.

There is a new leader in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association sanctioned barrel race. Taylor Jacob from Camine, Texas, stopped the clock in 16.92 seconds. Last year, Jill Welsh won here with a 16.91, so Jacob is looking good for a title. There are more barrel racers here than the performances will allow, so the bulk of them will compete during slack on the morning of July 4th. The rodeo started with 178 entries and over 100 of them will compete in slack.

Jessy Davis from Power, Mont., took the lead in the bareback riding with an 85-point ride on Frontier rodeo’s Lizzard Medicine. Davis is enjoying his rodeo time as he knows that as soon as he has a break, he will be in the hayfield. He and his wife, Cassidy, have twin girls that have been staying with grandparents while Jessy is on the road and Cassidy is busy on the tractor in the hayfield.

The 97th Anniversary of the Cody Stampede continues at Stampede Park on Sunday with the third perfomrnace at 8 p.m. More information is also available at www.codystampederodeo.com or codystampederodeo on Facebook.
