Games Notes: World Finals

THE EVENT: 

I’M FEELING 22 – The 2015 season will culminate this week with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, taking place in Las Vegas for the 22nd consecutive year on Oct. 21-25 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The richest bull riding event in the world has a $2.3 million purse, including a $1 million bonus to the 2013 PBR World Champion, who also receives the coveted World Champion buckle.

WORLD CHAMPIONS – The PBR World Champion is determined by the bull rider who earns the most PBR world points throughout the regular season and the Built Ford Tough World Finals. Current No. 1 bull rider in the world, J.B. Mauney, is in position to clinch the second World Championship of his career.

WORLD FINALS EVENT WINNER – The Built Ford Tough World Finals Event Winner is determined by the rider with the most event points after six rounds of competition. Just four riders have won the World Finals Event and World Championship in the same season – Silvano Alves in 2014, J.B. Mauney in 2013, Renato Nunes in 2010 and Mike Lee in 2004. Only Robson Palermo has won the event in consecutive years (2011, 2012); he is also the only man to win the event three times (2008, 2011 and 2012). FORMAT – The World Finals consists of six rounds of competition. The first five rounds feature all of the riders matched against the toughest bulls. The scores from the five rides will be combined and the Top 15 riders will advance for an additional round of competition, following the completion of Round 5.

There are 2,200 points available at the World Finals as the winner of the event will receive 1,000 points and each of the six round wins is worth 200 points. The World Finals Event winner will also receive $250,000 and each round winner will collect $30,000.

TELEVISION BROADCAST – CBS Sports Network will broadcast the Built Ford Tough World Finals live at 9 p.m. ET Wednesday, Oct. 21 through Saturday, Oct. 24; and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. Veteran broadcaster Craig Hummer will provide the play-by-play, and color commentary will be provided by nine-time World Champion and PBR co-founder Ty Murray. Two-time PBR World Champion Justin McBride, and PBR Ring of Honor member J.W. Hart will work behind the chutes, in-arena coverage will be provided by bullfighter Shorty Gorham, while Leah Garcia will handle dirt- level interviews.
