J.B. Mauney is the PBR’s $6 million Man

LAS VEGAS – After winning the 2015 PBR World Championship on Saturday and finishing in second place in the 2015 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals, J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, North Carolina) became the richest Western sports athlete in history with total career earnings of $6,708,492.

Mauney’s $1 million World Championship bonus, Round 1 and Round 4 wins, and second-place finish in the five-day World Finals netted him a check for $1,197,500, giving him total earnings of $1,540,942 in 2015.

Rookie of the Year runner-up Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) became the 2015 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Finals event winner on Sunday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center during Round 5 of the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals.

Davis is the fourth rookie overall to win the event title, and the first since Jody Newberry won the event in 2003. Davis went 4-for-6 in the event after he tallied 85.75 points on Moto Moto (Girletz Rodeo Stock) in Round 5. With a total aggregate score of 350.25 points, Davis captured first place and the $250,000 event winner’s check. He finished the event with total winnings of $292,500.

“The Thomas & Mack is where so much history of the PBR has taken place and it’s going to be different competing somewhere else next year, but I’m proud to be the last event winner in this building,” Davis said. “This is truly a moment I’ll never forget and I’m excited about what is still to come for me and my bull riding.”

Tanner Byrne (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) finished third in the event with 261 aggregate points to earn $105,000. Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) was fourth with 251 points, receiving a check for $173,500, and Fabiano Vieira (Perola, Brazil) finished in fifth place with 258.5 points and $70,000.

With a score of 47.25 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, Sweet Pro’s Long John (D&H Cattle Co.) became the 2015 PBR World Champion Bull, bucking off Vieira in 7.41 seconds to earn the honor. He bested 2015 ABBI Classic World Champion Bruiser also owned by D&H Cattle Co., by two points.

“It’s our job to prepare the bulls as best we can so they can perform to the best of their ability,” stock contractor H.D. Page said. “That’s the most important part of this job for me.”

For the second straight year, Chad Berger was named the PBR’s Stock Contractor of the Year. Berger earned the honor from 2007-09 and then again in 2014.

On Thursday night after Round 2, Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) earned the PBR Rookie of the Year honors. He went 3-for-6 in the event and ended the 2015 season as the No. 2 man in the PBR world standings.

For his 92.75-point ride on Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) in Round 4, Mauney captured the Lane Frost/Brent Thurman Award for the third consecutive year. The award is given to the rider who receives the highest-marked ride of the World Finals.

Byrne was awarded this year’s Glen Keeley Award for the second consecutive year. This award goes to the Canadian bull rider who earns the most points during the season.
