Leme Wins Round 1 in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Opening the first of three nights in Sioux Falls, 2017 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Rookie of the Year Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) won Round 1 of The 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast, First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard Invitational at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on Friday night.
Leme took the victory atop Red Bandana (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Staci Wilks/N Bar Ranch/Chase Bass) for 89 points. He currently leads the PBR with seven round wins. The No. 7 ranked bull rider in the world standings earned 100 world points and $3,850.
Reigning PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) returned to competition after missing the last event in Glendale. He finished in second place on Friday night by covering Smoke Signals (Flying V Bucking Bulls) for 87.75 points. For his effort, Lockwood won $2,750 and 60 world points, moving him up from No. 13 to No.11 in the world standings.
Nathan Burtenshaw (Coonamble, Australia) finished in third place with an 86.75-point ride aboard Aristokat (L&E Bucking Bulls), netting $2,000 and 50 world points. It was Burtenshaw’s fourth consecutive ride.
Prior to his fourth-place finish, Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) held the No. 14 spot in the world standings. He walked away from Round 1 at No. 13 after riding Red Sails in the Sunset (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) for 86.25 points. Pacheco earned $1,300 and 40 world points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Emilio Resende (Santa Helena do Goias, Brazil), who turned in an 85.75-point ride on Chute Boss (Owens / Wyatt) to take home an $850 paycheck and 30 world points.
The best bull riders in the world will return to the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on Saturday, April 7 for Round 2 of the First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard Invitational.
The action will be streaming live on Ridepass.com and the RidePass mobile app. Replays from Round 1 will be available starting at 8 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 7.
