NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Young gun Derek Kolbaba had fallen off after his hot start to the 2017 season, but the 20-year-old cowboy returned to the spotlight when he came from behind to win the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Bad Boy Mowdown Saturday night at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The victory was Kolbaba’s second Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) event win of the season.

Kolbaba went 2-for-3 in the 10th event of the season, including a clutch 89.5-point ride on Cochise (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) to win the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. It was the first qualified ride Cochise had surrendered since January of last year. The Walla Walla, Washington, native earned his way into the final round with an 84.5-point trip aboard Taboo (Gene Owen Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 earlier in the evening. He entered the championship round sitting 11th in the event.

Kolbaba secured 500 total world points along with $42,485 over the weekend, and now jumps from No. 11 in the PBR world standings to No. 6.

Three riders age 22 and under have won five of the 10 BFTS events so far this season.

Fans can see Round 2 and the Championship Round on CBS Sports Network at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 12.

Veteran Brazilian Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) finished second in North Little Rock after his own 2-for-3 performance. Vieira rode Legacy (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) in Round 2 for 87 points before being bucked off by reigning PBR World Champion Bull SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) in the championship round. For his efforts, Vieira netted 370 world points along with a $17,382 paycheck.

Vieira leaves Arkansas as the No. 12 ranked bull rider in the world.

Arkansas cowboy Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) led the event average heading into the final day of competition but finished third overall in the event. Outlaw covered Pepper (Viducic Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points in Round 2, but was later bucked off by Cut The Cord (Aduddell/Owens/Wyatt) in 1.77 seconds in the championship round.

Outlaw’s third place finish is the best in his career in his home state, and it earned him 280 points toward the world standings and $12,217.

Three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves (Pilar Do Sul) finished in fourth place Saturday night, picking up 138.3 points toward the world standings and $6,819. Alves turned in an 85.25-point ride on Kookaburra (Viducic Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 before being tossed by Jack Shot (D&H Cattle Co./David Huffman) in 3.11 seconds in the championship round.

Stetson Lawrence (Trenton, North Dakota) rounded out the Top 5 when he rode Pick-It Construction’s Find Jesus (Ogden Ranch/Hart Cattle Co.) for 86.5 points in Round 2. Lawrence went on to be bucked off by BC Circular Insanity (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) in 7.84 seconds in the championship round, but was still able to pocket 125 points toward the world standings and $6,650.

2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi’s (Leme, Brazil) countdown to 600 continued Saturday as he covered Glory Days (Plummer/Hart Cattle Co.) for 84.25 points for ride number 593 of his BFTS career. He was later bucked off by Seven Dust (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) in the championship round. Marchi is seven rides away from becoming the only rider in PBR history to reach the 600-ride milestone.

In an event where some of the rankest bulls in the PBR were in attendance, it was SweetPro’s Bruiser that was named the YETI “Built For The Wild” Bull of the Event. Bruiser scored 46 points for throwing Vieira in the championship round, and it was the second time this season Bruiser took home top bull honors.

The PBR’s best will now head back west to the Land of Enchantment where Wise Pies Arena, aka The Pit, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will host the Ty Murray Invitational, presented by Isleta Resort and Casino, Mar. 17-19.

PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app will broadcast Round 1 of the Ty Murray Invitational starting at 9:30 p.m. ET on March 17, Round 2 will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET on March 18 and Championship Sunday can be seen starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.

CBS Sports Network will broadcast the Championship Sunday action starting 4 p.m. ET.
