UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Quiet for most of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) second half, Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) saved the best for last with a walk-off victory on the final bull at Buck Off the Island, presented by Cooper Tires, Sunday afternoon at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Kolbaba completed a perfect 3-for-3 sweep with the weekend’s only 90-point ride aboard Buckeye Bill (K Bar C/Josie McElroy Bucking Bulls) to win the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. It was Kolbaba’s third Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) event win of the season, and his first since going 2-for-3 on his way to victory at the Bad Boy Mowdown in Little Rock, Arkansas, this past March.

More importantly, Kolbaba jumped back into the crowded World Championship race by picking up 635 world points and $40,155. Kolbaba now trails new world leader Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil), who finished third, by 775 points.

World No. 6 Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) finished second in Long Island after his own 3-for-3 weekend. Outlaw began Championship Sunday with an 87.5-point ride on Captain (Mike Miller/Torres Brothers) to win Round 2 before scoring 89.75 points on Jammin Jackson’s Handsome Jeff (K Bar C/Josie McElroy Bucking Bulls/Sparlin’ Acres) in the championship round.

Outlaw earned 405 world points for the finish, along with a check for $20,930. He trails No. 1 Aparecido by 1,068.34 points with only four regular-season events left until the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Nov. 1-5.

Aparecido returned to the top of the world standings for the first time since August after a third-place finish in Uniondale. The new world No. 1 went 3-for-3, including an 87.5-point trip on Nailed (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) in the championship round for his highest finish so far in the second half.

The 290 world points and $13,950 Aparecido earned for the effort was enough to push him past former world leader Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil), who finished 23rd overall in the event.

Aparecido now leads No. 2 Pacheco by 130 points.

BFTS rookie Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma) finished a career-best fourth in Long Island after going 2-for-3 over the weekend. Eldred opened his Championship Sunday with an 87.25-point ride on Red Fury (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) before eventually bucking off Cut The Cord (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) in the championship round.

Despite the quiet finish, Eldred netted 195 world points and $8,850, rising to No. 29 in the world standings.

In only his second BFTS event ever, Canadian rookie Jordan Hansen (Okotoks, Alberta, Canada) recorded a career-best fifth place finish after turning in his first 2-for-3 effort in the PBR’s top-flight tour. Hansen rode Well Hello (Mike Miller/Torres Brothers) for 85.75 points in Round 2 before bucking off Cooper’s Comet (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) in the championship round to close his weekend.

For the effort, Hansen earned 105 world points and $5,425. More importantly, he shifted into the Top 35 and now sits at No. 33 in the world standings.

Shownuff (Henry Wilson/Bar 3D Bucking Bulls/Wallgren) was named the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event after recording a 45-point bull score for bucking off Luciano de Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) in Sunday’s championship round.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will next head to the PBR’s home state of Colorado where the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs will host the Rumble in the Rockies Sept. 30-Oct. 1.

The Rumble in the Rockies will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET Sept. 30 on PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app. Championship Sunday from Colorado Springs will start at 3:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 1 on PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app, CBS Sports Network will also broadcast the Championship Sunday action beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
