Outlaw and Lowe Split Round 1 in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – The first night in the Gateway City belonged to a pair of young guns as Chase Outlaw and Missouri native Mason Lowe opened the PBR Bass Pro Chute Out, presented by Cooper Tires, by splitting the win in Round 1 Friday night at Scottrade Center.

Outlaw and Lowe secured the win Friday night thanks to a pair of 87.25-point rides. Outlaw reached 8 seconds on Gypsy Joe, it was the second weekend in a row that Outlaw opened the event with a qualified ride and it helped the Arkansas cowboy pick up 80 points toward the world standings and a $3,165 paycheck.

Lowe also earned 80 points and $3,165 when he covered Canadian Fastlane. It was Lowe’s third Built Ford Tough Series round win and his second in consecutive weeks after winning Round 2 at last weekend’s Iron Cowboy in Arlington, Texas.

Gage Gay finished third after reaching 8 seconds aboard Ram It (K-C/Josie McElroy Bucking Bulls/Spark-lin Acres) for 86.75 points. The ride was Gay’s first since Round 1 in Anaheim, California, and earned him 50 world points and $2,000.

Meanwhile, 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi took another step toward history when he rode Red Rocket (Broken Arrow Bucking Bulls) for 85.75 points. The ride was Marchi’s 588th on the Built Ford Tough Series and leaves him 12 away from become the first man to reach the 600 ride milestone on the PBR’s top-flight tour. Marchi’s effort earned him a fourth-place finish and 40 points toward the world standings along with $1,300.

2015 Rookie of the Year Kaique Pacheco rounded out the Top 5 in Round 1 after an 85.5-point ride on Hard Times (Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team). Pacheco earned 30 points toward the world standings for the finish and $850.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will return to the Scottrade Center for Round 2 of the Bass Pro Chute Out, presented by Cooper Tires tomorrow night. The action from Round 2 can be seen in real time on PBR LIVE and the PBR LIVE app beginning at 7:15 p.m. ET.
