Rodeo Camp on Tap in Red Bluff

Youth Rodeo Camp hosted by the Red Bluff Round-Up | School for Cowboys (and cowgirls)

RED BLUFF, Calif. – If a young buckaroo wants to learn how to stay on the back of a bucking horse or bull for eight seconds or wrestle a steer, where does he go?
He or she goes to the rodeo camp in Red Bluff, Calif., March 24.

That’s where aspiring buckaroos can get a taste of a variety of topics, all dealing with bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and bull riding.

The annual rodeo camp, hosted by the Red Bluff Round-Up and the PRCA, will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (PT) March 24 in Red Bluff at the Bunting Ranch. No equipment is required, and no live animals are used. Registration is required.

Participants can be of any skill level, ages 8 and older. The curriculum includes an introduction to the events: safety and fundamentals, injury prevention, chute procedures, equipment overview, and an introduction to the PRCA.

Several PRCA cowboys will be on hand to instruct and offer tips. Red Bluff native and bareback rider R.C. Landingham, who has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo the past two years, saddle bronc rider Jesse James Kirby, steer wrestler James Banister and bull rider Justin Andrade will help students. All four men have excelled at rodeo.

“It’s a way to foster prospective contestants and help them with fundamentals,” said James Miller, Red Bluff Round-Up general manager, in a press release. “And it’s a chance for them to talk to WNFR cowboys who are professionals.”

The camp is free. Participants are asked to register online at www.prorodeo.com/prorodeo/rodeo/youth-rodeo. Parents are free to visit the camp.

The Red Bluff Round-Up will be April 20-22. Performances begin at 7 p.m. (PT) on April 20, at 2:30 p.m. on April 21, and 1:30 p.m., on April 22. Tickets range in prices from $14 to $30 and can be purchased online at www.RedBluffRoundup.com, at the Round-Up office 530.527.1000 and at the gate. For more information, visit the website.
