Triplett Goes 3-for-3 in Tamworth, Australia

TAMWORTH, Australia. – The international invite from Columbia Falls, Montana, Matt Triplett was the only cowboy at the PBR Tamworth Invitational to go 3-for-3 and take home the championship buckle.
Returning to the Country Music Capital of Australia for the ninth year in a row, the first stop on the PBR Australia Cup Series didn’t disappoint with, 22 eager cowboys, over 50 of the state’s best bucking bulls and an arena full of PBR fans.
The 16 -hour flight from the United States didn’t seem to the phase the Montana duo of Triplett and Nevada Newman, who won Round 1 after an 84-point trip aboard L & M Rodeo’s Chain Reaction. Triplett finished in second with a score of 83.75 points, followed by Queensland cowboys Rohan Markham, Mitchel Paton, Harry Bridges and Budd Williamson.
Atherton cowboy Kurt Shephard, who just returned from his debut appearance at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, won Round 2 after an 86.5-point ride on Acid Rain.
Eight cowboys would qualify for the championship round, but only three posted scores. Appearing at his first PBR Cup Series event, Braydon Wellby, a rookie from Townsville, threw down the first score with an 82.25-point ride on Devil’s Dance. Nebo’s Mitchel Paton answered with an 85.5-point ride on John Gill & Sons High Flying Akubra. In the final ride of the night, Triplett closed things down with an 86.5-point ride on Call Me Joe from TNR Bucking Bulls.
L & M Rodeo’s Cocane earned high-marked bull honors after bucking off Newman and scoring 44.5 points.
