Biglow Cashes in at Caldwell Night Rodeo

By Susan Kanode for the Caldwell Night Rodeo

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Caldwell Night Rodeo is winding down with preliminary competition nearly over and the field set for the Championship Finals.

Clayton Biglow, a bareback rider from Clements, Calif., is the big winner here so far after scoring 86 points on Powder River Rodeo’s American Thumper during the first performance. That ride held the top spot through the remaining competition. His first-place check of $3,466 is the largest paid here so far.

Last year was Biglow’s most successful season yet after joining the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 2015 when he earned the Rookie of the Year. He qualified for last year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and finished the season in seventh place.

He is currently in fourth place this year with six weeks left in the regular season. His second NFR qualification has been secured. He is hoping to add more money to his earnings and move up in the standings and have a better opportunity to win the gold buckle that goes with being a world champion.

The bull riding is just one full round with 16 bull riders making their first appearance at Saturday night’s rodeo. There were four rides here on Friday night with Chase Dougherty from Canby, Ore., having the most success. Dougherty rode D & H Cattle Company’s bull named Cartridge for 88.5 points to move into second place.

Bulls at the Caldwell Night Rodeo are notorious for bucking off the cowboys. This year has been no exception, however through the first four performances there have been eight rides. Bull riders on Saturday night will need to score 82.5 points or better to move into the money.

The final performance of the rodeo begins at 8 p.m., Saturday night. The lion’s share of nearly $300,000 will be paid and Caldwell Night Rodeo champions will be crowned. More information is available at www.caldwellnightrodeo.com.
