Behind the Chaps: Miss Rodeo Colorado

¡Hola! Ashley Baller, Miss Rodeo Colorado 2022 here. I’ve always been enamored by the rodeo queen’s unique form of expression through her chaps. My floral, colorful pair tell a special story! At first glance of my Pro Rodeo Original chaps, my intention is for them to showcase my faith, my culture and bright positivity. My big brother is an artist, so I tasked him with designing them. All I let him know was that I wanted to include flowers (a Columbine and two native to Mexico). With that, he perfectly sketched a design that included Colorado’s state flower, the Giant Ombré Hibiscus, the Mexican Tulip Poppy and a cross to represent my faith. With elegant tooling, we included in Spanish “Dios es Amor” (God is Love) in the yoke. They were truly designed with love and the Spanish flare speaks to a key piece of my platform in building community with Spanish and English speakers. What’s so neat about them is that they’re tooled with my brother’s exact artwork! Dale and Hannah at Pro Rodeo Originals did spectacular work. Dale also built my very first pair of rodeo princess chaps when I was 12-years-old! This is another reason why my Miss Rodeo Colorado chaps are so special!
