By: Kacie Albert

FORT WORTH, Texas – As an electric crowd watched on inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum for the fourth iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series Residency, no rider was more dominant than 2002 World Champion Ednei Caminhas (Indaiatuba, Brazil). Going a perfect 2-for-2, the Texas Rattlers rider was anointed the victor of PBR Sunday at Cowtown.

In Round 1, Caminhas posted the third-best score when he rode Ralph’s Black Diamond (Nothin’ But Try Ranch/Diggers Bucking Bulls) for 79.5 points.

Caminhas then readied to go head-to-head against Read Between The Lines (Richardson Land & Cattle Co.) in the championship round.

In perfect time with the powerful animal athlete, Caminhas clinched the win as he posted an event-best 86-point score.

For his golden finish, Caminhas collected 40 Challenger Series points.

Second was Guatemalan sensation Rodrigo Melgar (Santa Rosa, Guatemala), garnering 27 Challenger Series points.

Melgar was unmatched in the opening round of competition when he covered Moonwalker (D&H Cattle/Flinn) for 85.5 points.

The 24-year-old, however, fell just short of his career-first Challenger Series win when he was bucked off by Viper (Hookin’ W Ranch) in 3.78 seconds.

Dayer Da Costa (Araras, Brazil) was third, marking his career-best effort in PBR competition on American soil.

Going 1-for-2, Costa rode Co-Witt (Bloyd Land & Cattle/Wyloh Ranch) for 82.5 points in Round 1.

Costa left Cowtown Coliseum having earned 14 Challenger Series points.

As the only other contender to deliver a qualified ride, the Missouri Thunder’s Jesse Petri (Dublin, Texas) was fourth.

After bucking off Wedgie (Rockin R Bucking Bulls) in 4.58 seconds in Round 1, Petri rebounded in the championship round, covering TBR’s Ecoboost (Blake Sharp/TBR Bucking Bulls) for 81 points to cement the Top 5 finish.

Petri earned 10 Challenger Series points.

In the bull pen, Black Cherry (Hookin’ W/ProVantage Animal Health), John 14:6 (Jenkins Cattle Co.) and 98 (Lyndon Flinn) tied for bull of the event, each posting a 44.5-point score.

Black Cherry and John 14:6 earned the marks in Round 1, bucking off Robson Guedes (Descalvado, Brazil) in 2.38 seconds, and Tylor Cabe (Fletcher, North Carolina) in 1.39 seconds, respectively, while 98 led the pen in the championship round when he upended Wyatt Moulton (Fruitland, Idaho) in 3.81 seconds.
