Carolina Cowboys Named Honorary Citizens of Winston-Salem Ahead of Cowboy Days

By: Darci Miller

PUEBLO, Colo. – North Carolina has fully embraced the Carolina Cowboys.

Ahead of Cowboy Days on Sept. 9-11 in Winston-Salem – the first homestand in Carolina Cowboys history – the mayor of Winston-Salem had a surprise in store for the franchise.

Mayor Allen Joines announced that Managing Operator Richard Childress, General Manager Austin Dillon, Assistant General Manager Tiffany Davis, head coach Jerome Davis, and all the riders on the roster – in addition to bovine superstar Dang It, who was on hand for the festivities – have been named honorary citizens of Winston-Salem.

“Today we’re bringing more bull into city hall,” Joines said, laughing.

The 8-year-old bovine most recently bucked at the Davis’ annual PBR Challenger Series event on July 1, where Cowboys stars Daylon Swearingen (89.5 points) and Mason Taylor (89 points) picked up qualified rides courtesy of the now Winston-Salem honorary citizen.

The Cowboys are currently 8-5 and in third place in the PBR Team Series Standings. Fresh off a win at Gambler Days two weeks ago in Austin, Texas, the Cowboys hope to become the first team to win its homestand.

“PBR has been to Winston-Salem, and that’s where Dale Earnhardt and I came up,” Childress said. “We used to come up and watch it years ago. And to see the PBR back in Winston-Salem on the 9th, 10th and 11th is going to be huge.”

In Winston-Salem, the Cowboys will take on the Missouri Thunder (7-6), the Arizona Ridge Riders (9-4) and the Nashville Stampede (3-10).

Action from Winston-Salem and the LJVM Coliseum begins Friday, Sept. 9 at 7:45 p.m. ET on RidePass on Pluto TV.
