STETSON WRIGHT WINS ROUND 7 SADDLE BRONC RIDING AND BULL RIDING

Stetson Wright won his first career Wrangler NFR go-round in saddle bronc riding with a 90.5-point trip on Hi Lo Pro Rodeo’s Larry Culpepper at Globe Life Field, Dec. 9. Less than an hour later, he won bull riding with an 89-point ride on Universal Pro Rodeos’ Slinger. Wright is the first cowboy to win two roughstock events in one night at the Finals since 2001. In Round 4 that year, Jesse Bail split the win in saddle bronc riding and won the bull riding outright. Wright has won Rounds 1, 2 and 7 in bull riding. The reigning all-around world champion put himself in great position to make it two all-around gold buckles in a row. He has $265,802 and has a sizable lead over second-place Tuf Cooper, who is at $153,634. Wright is second in the bull riding standings with $178,248. He trails leader Ty Wallace by a mere $82. Wright is seventh in the saddle bronc riding world standings with $117,293.

BULL RIDER TYLER BINGHAM INJURED IN ROUND 7

Bull rider Tyler Bingham suffered a concussion after being bucked off Big Stone Rodeo Inc.’s Spotted Demon in Round 7 and will not be able to compete in Round 8 or Round 9. Bingham was down on the arena floor for several minutes after being stepped on by Spotted Demon, the 2018 PRCA bull of the year and top bull of the NFR that season. The Justin Sportsmedicine injury report stated that Bingham suffered a concussion and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Bingham has earned $26,500 at this year’s NFR, highlighted by him placing third in Round 2 with an 82-point ride on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Smoke Wagon.

HUNTER HERRIN STAYS HOT WITH SECOND TIE-DOWN ROPING WIN

Tie-down roper Hunter Herrin won Round 5 with a 7.4-second run, was second in Round 6 (6.9 seconds) and returned to the winner’s circle in Round 7 with a 6.8-second run. This is Herrin’s ninth trip to the Wrangler NFR and first since 2016. Herrin has earned an event-best $101,385.

BARREL RACER MILLER-BEISEL MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW

Barrel racer Emily Miller-Beisel got her first win and first check of the 2020 Finals with a 17.01-second run in Round 6. One night later, the Weatherford, Okla., cowgirl returned to the winner’s circle in Round 7 with a 16.85-second run aboard Chongo.

Bareback rider Leighton Berry drew Frontier Rodeo’s Showstopper for Round 8 of the 2020 Wrangler NFR, the same horse that Clayton Biglow set the Round 8 record on at the 2019 NFR with a 90-point ride. Jesse Pope is set to ride Calgary Stampede’s Xplosive Skies in Round 8. This horse took Kaycee Feild on a 91.5-point ride to win Round 3. Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Killer Bee is returning to the arena with Cole Reiner on his back. Richmond Champion rode Killer Bee in Round 3 for 87.5 points. This is a horse with a reputation for high scores. Only a handful of bareback riders have posted rides of 93 points or higher in ProRodeo history, and Devan Reilly became one of them with Killer Bee at La Fiesta de los Vaqueros in Tucson, Ariz., in 2018. Killer Bee was the top saddle bronc of the NFR in 2013-14 and the top bareback horse of the NFR in 2018-19. Killer Bee also won the 2019 bareback horse of the year award. Meanwhile, Jamie Howlett drew C5 Rodeo’s Make Up Face, the bareback of the night for Round 3. … In saddle bronc riding, Taos Muncy drew Calgary Stampede’s Yesterdays Delivery, the same bronc that Allen Boore won Round 3 on with a 90.5-point ride. Yesterdays Delivery was named saddle bronc of the night for Round 3. Lefty Holman drew Northcott Macza’s OLS Tubs Get Smart, the same bronc that bucked off Stetson Wright in Round 3. Get Smart was the top saddle bronc of the 2018 NFR and the 2019 saddle bronc of the year. Zeke Thurston won Round 7 of the 2019 NFR with a 92.5-point ride on Get Smart. … In bull riding, Brady Portenier drew Andrews Rodeo’s Diddy Wa Diddy, the same bull that bucked off Tyler Bingham in Round 3. Stetson Wright notched a 93.5-point ride aboard Diddy Wa Diddy during Round 8 of the 2019 NFR. Ty Wallace drew Powder River Rodeo’s Chiseled, the 2020 bull of the year that bucked off Boudreaux Campbell in Round 3. Chiseled had four outs in the 2020 season and bucked off each cowboy. Roscoe Jarboe drew Frontier Rodeo’s Magic Poison, the Round 3 bull of the night.
