Josey Makes His Mark in Vegas

90-point fight advances Oklahoman to BFO Championship Round

LAS VEGAS – Justin Josey may have put on the best bullfight of his life Friday afternoon, and it was perfect timing.

Josey, a Bullfighters Only pioneer from Apache, Oklahoma, scored 90 points in his head-to-head match with Chase Blythe of Concord, North Carolina, to advance out of Friday’s Wild Card Round and into Saturday’s finale in the BFO Las Vegas Championship at the Tropicana Las Vegas.

“That fight was everything to me,” he said. “I walked in there with a goal of two days, three bulls. I’ve got another day and one bull guaranteed, so I want to get another one after that. I need to take care of business and make the short round so I can get that third bull.”

When one does something well, it shows. That’s the case with Josey and the rest of the BFO.

“That was one of the top five most electric fights I’ve ever seen,” Founder and CEO Aaron Ferguson said. “That’s the Josey we want to see every time.”

There was something quite special about it, too. The setting – the year-end championship on The Strip in Las Vegas – was perfect for such a big moment.

“Out of 400-plus outs, it was the best bullfight of the year,” said Luke Kaufman, the BFO’s General Manager.

In a do-or-die situation – Friday’s winners advanced to Championship Saturday, while the losers are done. Josey will be joined by the other winners: Chance Moorman, Tucker Lane, Weston Rutkowski, Zach Call and Toby Inman; Josey’s fight on the Manuel Costa bull was just the icing on the cake.

“It was just a good little bull, and I got to him early with the swoosh,” he said, referring to the maneuver in which he turned his back to the bull as it entered the arena, then flat-foot jumped as the bull flashed through. “I had Chase Blythe behind me, so I knew I couldn’t leave any room for error. I just wanted to have fun, leave it all out there and fight the bull.”

He did that in a big way. It was a change in formula for Josey, who had trouble in previous fights in Las Vegas but maintained his composure in the Wild Card Round.

“I’m always eager to jump to the fence instead of feeling what I’m doing and staying with the fight,” Josey said. “Keeping my head calm and staying consistent in what I was doing was the big thing for me today, making things happen.

“It was just a good day. I’m ready for all the boys to put on more 90-point fights tomorrow, and we can have some fun.”
