Lucas Fideles Souza Stays Hot, Wins PBR Stockyards Showcase

FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 51st iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) went a perfect 2-for-2 to win the event title.
A reserve rider for the Nashville Stampede in the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, Souza rode Kingsman (Ray Lancaster) for a round-winning 85.5 points in the opening round.
Now in prime position to avenge his runner-up finish from last week in Cowtown Coliseum, he roared out of the gates aboard Happy Days (United Pro Rodeo) for 85 points to seal the victory.
The Commonwealth cowboy returned home with a crucial 58.5 Velocity Global points.
Keyshawn Whitehorse (McCracken Spring, Utah) also went 2-for-2, finishing second.
In Round 1, the Arizona Ridge Riders’ star posted 83 points on Go Fund Me (United Pro Rodeo) to finish second behind Souza.
Whitehorse then briefly took the lead by sitting tall atop Back Bender (United Pro Rodeo) for an event-high 85.5 points in Round 2 before being overtaken by Souza.
The silver finish netted the 26-year-old 49 Velocity Global points.
In third place was Ederson Santos (Ilha Solteira, Brazil).
Starting strong with an 81.5-point ride on Oliver Anthony (United Pro Rodeo) to begin his evening, the Brazilian topped CMSR 9E (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 84.5 points to earn the last podium spot in Round 2.
The perfect performance garnered 31 Velocity Global points.
The final rider with two qualified rides on the evening was Leandro Zampollo (Pirassununga, Brazil), who finished fourth.
Paired with CMSR 014 (Stockyards Prop Rodeo) in Round 1, he rocketed out of the gate for 80 points.
In Round 2, he then improved on that performance with an 85-point ride on Black Sheep (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) to break into the Top 5 of the event standings.
He left Cowtown Coliseum with 28.5 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 were Alex Junior da Silva (Bom Jesus da Penha, Brazil) and Elizmar Jeremias (Anapu, Brazil), who both went 1-for-2.
While Silva started strong in Round 1, scoring 82.5 points on Caddilac Black (Lancaster & Jones Pro Rodeo), he failed to make the 8 in the final round as Grey Goose (United Pro Rodeo) bested him in 5.93 seconds.
Jeremias was bucked off by PSB 19G (Paige Stout Bucking Bulls) in 7.76 seconds in the opening round but rallied back to cover CMSR 20B (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 82.5 points in Round 2.
Silva rose 16.5 points in the Velocity Global standings, while Jeremias departed with 14.5 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Top Gun (United Pro Rodeo) was marked 43.5 points for bucking off Francisco Morales (Irapuato, Brazil) in 3.49 seconds during the final round to win the Bull of the Event title.
