By: Kacie Albert

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – For the fifth consecutive season, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada’s elite Cup Series, presented by Wrangler, will travel to Lethbridge, Alberta, taking over ENMAX Centre on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4 for the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown, presented by VisitLethbridge.com.

PBR Canada’s Cup Series regularly features Canada’s best riders alongside some of the league’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation.

For two nights only, fans will witness exhilarating 8-second rides and wrecks throughout the action-packed event as the PBR’s courageous bull-riding athletes face off against their 2,000-pound opponents bred to buck.

The PBR South Country Co-op Showdown, presented by VisitLethbridge.com, will mark the second event of the 2023 season for the PBR Canada Cup Series, presented by Wrangler, which will launch on Feb. 4 in Red Deer, Alberta.

In Sept. 2022, the elite Cup Series held a unique double-header tour stop inside ENMAX Centre. Unrivaled, 2018 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) went a perfect 4-for-4, winning the back-to-back events to surge from No. 8 to No. 2 in the national standings.

When competition got underway for the first of two iterations of the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown, Tetz attempted Slip Slap (Vold Rodeo/Prescott) for the third time in his career, having made the requisite 8 in both of their previous meetings. Tetz kept his success streak alive aboard the powerful bovine athlete in Lethbridge, matching the bull jump-for-jump en route to an 85-point score.

Positioned second on the event leaderboard ahead of the championship round, Tetz elected to attempt Up Shit (Vold Rodeo). In a decision that paid dividends, Tetz remained in perfect time with the bull, making the whistle for a victory-clinching 86 points. Tetz’s golden finish earned him a crucial 77 national points. He rose two positions in the national standings from No. 8 to No. 6, inching within 79 points of No. 1 Logan Biever.

When the competition continued for the second event, Tetz returned to action amidst a wave of momentum as he readied to take on Later Gator (Wild Hoggs/Colin Eskeland) in Round 1. Tetz punched his ticket to the championship round as the top-ranked man in the event as he reached the whistle for 86.5 points.

Tetz then drafted Deep Creek (Vold Rodeo) as his final opponent and matched the bull jump-for-jump for event-best 88 points to cement the golden finish.

Through his unrivaled effort, Tetz earned a maximum of 80 national points. He rose from No. 6 to No. 2 in the standings and inched within a then mere 28 points of the top rank.
