Perfect Cardozo Wins Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s Buckin’ at the Rock

CHURCH ROCK, N.M. – At the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in Church Rock, New Mexico, Alex Cardozo (Indaiatuba, Brazil) proved the supreme athlete, going a perfect 2-for-2 to win the inaugural PBR Buckin’ at the Rock.

In Round 1 at the picturesque Red Rock Park Arena, the veteran contender got off to a hot start, delivering a dominant score when he covered Regulator (Humpz and Hornz/Frances Dandy) for 84 points.

Surging to the top of the leaderboard, Cardozo squared off against Blue Sky (Humpz an Hornz) in the championship round.

Cardozo rose to the occasion, the crowd erupting in raucous cheer as he reached the requisite 8 for an event-best 88 points.

Marking his first event victory of the season on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour, Cardozo netted a critical 44 world points as he attempts to qualify for the third PBR World Finals of his career.

Cardozo, who entered the event ranked No. 147 in the world, surged 27 positions in the world rankings compliments of the golden finish, now No. 120.

Manoelito de Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil) was second, collecting 24 world points.

Souza registered the second-best score of Round 1, marked 80.5 points aboard Purgatory (Humpz and Horns/Frances Daddy), but was unable to conclude the event with a qualified ride, bucked off by Muddy Jacket (Humpz and Hornz/Frances Daddy) in 1.7 seconds in the championship round.

While he fell just short of his second Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event victory of the year, Souza solidified his world No. 44 rank. He trails the Top 30 and a seeded position on the elite Unleash The Beast by 114 points.

Third was Jesse Tillman (Olathe, Kansas).

As the only other rider to make the 8, Tillman clinched the bronze finish courtesy of his 77.5-point effort aboard Rack City Dreamin (4B Bucking Bulls) in Round 1.

Tillman left Red Rock Park Arena having earned 13 world points.

In the bull pen, Jersey Tuff (McClellan/Lidgard/Hart) was the high-marked bull of the event.

The powerful bovine athlete earned an impressive 45-point score for his 5.24-second buckoff of Alvaro Aguilar Alvarez (La Punta Lagos Moreno, Mexico) in Round 1.

The PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour next travels to Fairfax, Virginia, and EagleBank Arena on September 25-26. Action gets underway with Round 1 at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 25, followed by Round 2 and the championship round on Sunday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
