PRCA for the Record: Cimarron Boardman has Daily Reminder of Record Run in Vernal

Cimarron Boardman is a 20-year veteran in ProRodeo and through all those tie-down roping runs there’s one at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo that he still remembers like it was yesterday.

“We made a really good run that day in Vernal (Utah), it was one of those deals where I had a good calf and my horse did a great job, it was perfect timing for everyone,” said Boardman, 40.

In 2017, the Stephenville, Texas cowboy, clocked a 7.0-second run to break the rodeo record. It’s a moment in his long career that he’s reminded of every single day.

“That may be the only arena record I have as far as one headers in my career,” Boardman said. “It’s obviously a cool deal to have and hold to this day. I actually have a great big picture of that run hanging in my living room right now.”

Over the last few years Boardman has taken a step back from rodeo, competing in only a handful of select rodeos each season. As he wanted to focus on developing his welding business and spending time with family, which includes an up incoming rodeo star in his nine-year-old daughter.

“I’m 40 this year so I’m not getting any younger, and right now I have a welding business going and we’ve been really busy,” Boardman said. “On top of that my daughter is full fledge junior rodeoing, she’s wanted to step up and get better and better. So, I’ll give her all the time she needs.”

They will take the family on the road in the coming weeks. Boardman is entered to compete in the Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days rodeo, but this trip will look a little different compared to the thousands of others he’s made in his career.

“We are actually going to make that trip up to Cheyenne a family trip, kind of like a vacation for all of us,” Boardman said. “We are going to go to Jackson Hole (Wyo.) and also visit Yellowstone National Park, but the plan is still to go to Cheyenne and get a buckle, I’ve never won that one before.”
