PRCA for the Record: Weatherford, Texas

Originally known as the Parker County Frontier Days Celebration and Rodeo, this Weatherford, Texas, rodeo started in 1947 to keep the local Western heritage and horsemanship alive.

More than 70 years later, ProRodeo’s finest flock about 30 miles west of Fort Worth to compete at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days and PRCA Rodeo, but only the best have left their mark with arena records.

Steer roper Rocky Patterson set the three-head average record of 32.1 seconds in 2001 and then beat that record at the 2018 rodeo with a time of 31.2. The Kansas cowboy is a 25-time qualifier for the Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping (1994-95, 1997-2019) and a four-time world champion (2009-10, 2012 and 2016). Since joining the PRCA in 1992, he has won more than $1.5 million in ProRodeo competition while setting rodeo records along the way.

Patterson is still going strong. He’s 13th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings partially thanks to winning the Ron Ross Memorial Steer Roping in Liberty Hill, Texas, June 14.

Cowboys will have a chance to top Patterson’s record and the rest July 8-11. Fans can catch all the Weatherford rodeo action and the Xtreme bulls event on the Cowboy Channel and the PRCA on the Cowboy Channel Plus App.

The Xtreme bulls competition will be July 7 at 8:30 p.m. (ET). The rodeo is July 8-11 at 8:30 p.m.
