PRCA Weekly Recap: June 29 through July 5

The 2020 Fourth of July run was unlike any other. The 14 ProRodeo competitions held across the U.S. June 29 through July 5 collectively paid out $1,718,434 in prize money.

The fastest times and highest scores might not always make the record book, but they make a lasting memory for fans and competitors. With hundreds of PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride.

Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

In addition to the fame that comes with winning the most prize money, each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event held June 29 through July 5.

Two bareback riders registered 90.5-point rides over the weekend. Chad Rutherford won the Cody (Wyo.) Stampede with his 90.5-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s Gun Fire on July 3. A day later Kaycee Feild posted a 90.5-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s Two Buck Chuck to win the Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche, S.D.

Steer wrestler Cody Harmon stopped the clock in 3.3 seconds to win the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo in Oakley City, Utah, June 30. Harmon’s run tied the Oakley City rodeo record that was set by Dean Gorsuch in 2006.

Team ropers Logan Medlin and Charly Crawford won the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo with their 4.0-second run, June 30.

Saddle bronc rider Rusty Wright won the Cody Stampede with a 91.5-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s Medicine Woman, July 2.

Tie-down roper Marty Yates won Mandan (N.D.) Rodeo Days with a 7.3-second run, July 3.

Steer roper Landon McClaugherty won Round 2 of the Cody Stampede with an 8.1-second run, July 4. McClaugherty’s run counts as an arena record since this was the first time the Cody Stampede has included steer roping.

Barrel racer Shannon Lilllard won Abbyville (Kan.) Frontier Days with a 14.95-second run, July 4.

Bull rider Reid Oftedahl won the Sitting Bull Stampede in Mobridge, S.D. with a 91.5-point ride on Sutton Rodeos’ Grey Mouse, July 3.
