Champions Crowned at Calgary Stampede 4-H Rodeo

Calgary – It was an amazing weekend of rodeo competition at Stampede Park, but also a valuable learning experience for 4-H youth members who participated in the Calgary Stampede 4-H Rodeo, Sept. 24-25.

Approximately 75 up and coming rodeo stars aged nine to 21 gathered at the Nutrien Western Event Centre. The event kicked off with a series of clinics taught by industry-leading experts, including reigning Canadian Breakaway Roping Champion Kendal Pierson, Canadian rodeo legend Larry Robinson and the Stampede’s own Western Sports, Production & Competitions Manager, Chad Besplug – a Calgary Stampede and Canadian Champion. During these sessions, the next generation of competitors developed new skills and expanded their knowledge in cow riding, breakaway roping, basic/advanced riding, rodeo skills and ground roping.

Then, the following day, the 4-H youth members went head-to-head in a variety of riding and roping events. The entire weekend was the experience of a lifetime.

“It is so rewarding seeing the advancement and development of 4-H youth throughout the weekend and over the years as returning participants,” said Norma Ansloos, lead of the Calgary Stampede 4-H Rodeo sub-committee. “The Calgary Stampede 4-H Rodeo is not possible without Stampede volunteers and employees to ensure a top-notch event. This plays a big role in the development of our 4-H Youth Members who are successful each time they have the opportunity to live out the motto of “Learn to do by Doing.”
