Cole Reiner Shines Early at Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo

The Fort Worth (Texas) Stock Show and Rodeo kicked off on Jan. 21 and with 10 days of rodeo in the books the field has been narrowed down.

Buffalo, Wyo., bareback rider Cole Reiner is one of those cowboys still in the hunt for a 2022 FWSSR title. He punched his ticket to the semifinals in the fourth performance with a 90-point ride on Championship Pro Rodeo’s Hooey Rocks.

“I’ve been watching that horse ever since I’ve been around in the PRCA,” said Reiner, 23. “I knew he was going to buck, but I didn’t know how much of a handful he was going to be. He hung up there and gave me plenty of time to do exactly what I needed to do.”

Reiner’s trip on Hooey Rocks is the highest-scored ride of the rodeo so far with one bracket left to go. He said there’s something special about competing in big winter rodeos after a handful of them were canceled last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As far as Fort Worth goes, I love that building, hands down one of the best rodeos over the year when you consider everything,” Reiner said. “There’s something about the biggest indoor rodeos that really get me fired up.

“So, to be able to go there and get a good start is really important. It’s really exciting to be a part of and a great opportunity to get your world standings kicked off right. You have to keep that momentum rolling into March with the other big rodeos out there coming up.”

The young bareback rider made his second trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge in December. He credits the success he’s found in winter rodeos to competing in the grind that is 10 days of the NFR

“People don’t think of it this way but it’s a big advantage (qualifying for the Finals) come January, February, and March,” Reiner said. “We are still coming off the high and riding 10 horses in a row and being in that critical situation, so this part is easy. Right now, we’re still feeding off that energy and preparation. So, it’s a ton of fun to be out rodeoing right now.”

He currently sits 13th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $10,139 earned so far this season. You can watch Reiner and the rest of the field at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo nightly on The Cowboy Channel and the PRCA on The Cowboy Channel Plus App, Jan. 31 – Feb. 5.
