Josh Frost, Arisson Pereira Split Round 1 Win at Denver PBR Chute Out

DENVER, Colo. – As Round 1 of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) three-day Denver PBR Chute Out at the National Western Stock Show came to a close on Tuesday night, Josh Frost (Randlett, Utah) and Arisson Pereira (Ivate, Brazil) split the opening round win with monstrous performances Tuesday.
Tasked with taking on I’m Legit Too (Hart Cattle Co/Hale), Frost, a rider for the Carolina Cowboys on the separate PBR Teams league, thundered out of the chutes for a round-high-tying 90 points.
Not to be outdone, Pereira matched Renegade (Hale/Vella/Ogden/Hart) in perfect time for 90 points of his own to split the Round 1 victory.
With only 16 qualified rides throughout the opening slate, both riders guaranteed themselves a spot in the championship round in addition to Round 2 on Wednesday evening and each garnered 24 Velocity Global points.
Eric Henrique Domingos (Perola, Brazil) came in third courtesy of his 87-point ride on Joy’s Bang Bang (4B Bucking Bulls/Rudy Meija Bucking Bulls) on Monday evening.
After the dust settled on Round 1, Domingos netted 17 Velocity Global points and a chance at the event buckle tomorrow night.
Right behind Domingos in the standings is Cort McFadden (Novice, Texas), awarded 86.5 points for his duel with Too Dirty (Ty Rinaldo TZ Bucking Bulls) on Monday.
McFadden earned 16 points in the Velocity standings and a spot in Round 2 on Wednesday.
Courtesy of a double-entry, Hunter Ball (Carsonville, Michigan) rallied after being bucked off in his first out to top Taking Chances (Frihauf Cattle Co) for 86 points on Monday evening to tie for fifth in the standings.
He was matched by Leonardo Lima (Vale do Paraiso, Brazil), who scored 86 points Tuesday night on Ah Hell (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls).
In addition to guaranteeing a spot in Round 2, the cowboys each collected 14.5 Velocity Global points.
Also of note was Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil), who finished sixth.
A rider for the Missouri Thunder, the Brazilian is currently ranked in the Top 20 on the PBR’s elite Unleash The Beast and covered Rooster Jack (Classic Jack Cattle/Viducic Bucking Bulls) for 85.5 points Tuesday evening.
The Denver PBR Chute Out will continue at the National Western Stock Show on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. MST for Round 2, immediately followed by the championship round.
